Very interested in a new basic dvd recorder. I narrowed it down to the pioneer dvr 220S, but was disappointed to learn that the only ones available are remanufactured. Everyone seemed satisfied with this player, and now I can't find it. I like to record shows from t.v. mainly and am interested in the chase play.

I do not need a fancy recorder and was also interested in the Magnavox MR90?? from Walmart (price $98). That particular model is supposed to be +/- R/RW, but the box only has it labeled as +R/RW -- unless this is an older model at my store (Cleveland, Oh). The manufacturing date is June 06', though. I am not very interested in this unit other than the price because I lean toward -RW (even though) it is becoming harder to buy the discs in stores. Also, the Magnavox is made by Funai. I made the mistake of quickly jumping on the Emerson DVD/Vcr recorder (also made by Funai) a couple of years ago,and it is junk.
If anyone knows where I can get the Pioneer dvr 220S or has any other ideas, it would be appreciated. Thanks.

Ultimate Electronics Stores have those dvdrecorders at about $200 us. I have one I have used for about a year without any problems. You must use dvd- media R or RW only. Office max has DVD-RW media for $8.00 for 25 that works well with this unit.

thank you very much. I learned that this product has for the most part been discontinued in the US. Some are available online at auctions, such as Ebay, but are listed as reconditioned. With a lot of searching, I found a brand new one through amazon.com (united states) from a company in Anaheim, California for about $150 delivered. I ordered it last week, and still haven't received it yet.

Thanks again.

I thought I found a bargain, but I got sent a refurbished pioneer dvr 220 - s. It was a mistake. The company I ordered it from was very apologetic and said that there was an error on the dock. I was supposed to get the last new one, but there are many that are refurbished. They sent me the unit and now they are paying to take it back. I've given up on the 220 -s, but am now interested in the pioneer dvr 310 - s. Is this a newer unit or older. This model also has been discontinued, but new ones are available at a couple of sites including homse shopping network. What are the differences between the pioneer 220 and 310?? Do either units have the capability to modify the timer recording to fit onto a disk?? I think that this is a cool feature otherwise unavailable on other models. Any info. would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance.

Went to Office Max. I could not find any -RW media. Only -R and they did not carry the Office Max brand. The brands carried were Fuji and Magnavox - R. I like the -RW because it can be rerecorded.

Anyway, I use the Pioneer DVR 310 recorder. If anyone has any suggestions besides buying media online, I'd appreciate it.

I'm still trying to find -RW media for the Pioneer dvr 310-S. I was having trouble with my player recognizing any -RW media. I called Pioneer and they said the machine is under warranty and the laser needed adjustment because -R worked fine. My unit was sent back and it works. I can put in finalized -RW that it will recognize and play. I still have skipped issues with Maxell and Memorex recorded and finalized on another -RW machine. TDK -RW right out of the box still won't work. I have the player to automatically initialize when a disc is inserted, and that doesn't help. The Office Max by me only sells -RW their brand. Their website and Office Depot and Staples only seem to sell -R. The TDK I'm trying to use is listed as 1-4x -RW. My machine says it can recognize -R version 1.1/4X and 1.1/2X -RW. Who can provide insight on where I can get the proper -RW media?? I appreciate it.
