I have a ps2 with a flip top, have been using backup discs with swap magic and it reads okay (with an occasional disc read error). Now when I tried to put in an original, it won't read it, I get a DRE. I tried cleaning the lense, moving the lense gear, and using an aircan to clean but no luck. Anyone have any input? Thanks in advance

are your backups DVD? if only CDR then your lens needs fixing

yeah, my backups are dvd. I tried to realign the lens with the gears...have done it some, but do not have the patience to do all of them

and the weird part is, it reads my swap magic dvd boot disc, but not the cd version boot disc

have the laser lens alligned properly by a real technician that does ps2's or you can order another lens cause its probably dying.
you will notice that when you run a DVD game it cannot focus its laser properly and is unstable or just wrong laser at all. the laser should be as big a dot from a marker pentel pen when running a dvd, and laser should be fine as a needle when on cd.

Its your laser there about 90$au to round 110au alligning it n crap does work sometimes but in rare casses and its prettuy hard to get the 100% correct position
