Im having problems reading data from disks on both of my drives. I put a cdr in with compressed program files and my computer pretty much crashes everytime I try to open up any of the programs on the data disk. Iso's and the like work fine but I cant get these files off of the disks. Thanks in advance.

Also, is there any diagnostic programs that help with this? or anything?

Reading compressed program files --> crash...
1. PIO vs DMA
2. (Likely) Low System Resources --> try just copying the files to the hard drive, does it work?
3. Background appz (autoplay, antivirus, etc)
4. (Also likely) Windows kaput

What are these files?
Could you also provide me with:
- OS
- System specs.

they are just Winrar archives that have MSworks and other productivity programs on them.
I just recently had ASPI issues, I couldnt get burnatonce to work, but those are fixed. But it pretty much seems to me that once I got burnatonce to function properly, I could no longer extract these programs off either of my drives.
Windows XP professional
Pentium 4 1.3 Ghz
128 MB PC800
40 GB
Bloody Monster GeForce4 440Se 64MB
Ive tried copying the files to my HD but once I drag the files to be copied the computer freezes.
I only run PC-Cillin in the background and my pc resources seem to be pretty high.
I just recently upgraded to XP and everything was working fine, I was in the process of getting everything back the way it used to be and then I run into this. Thanks for the help.

1. Are you running WindowsXP with the SP1 patch?
2. Open up the Task Manager, goto the Processes Tab, enable "Show processes from all users". Now try to do something with the CD drive, what does the CPU useage for one of those processes jump all the sudden?
3. Try doing whatever it is without PC-cillen running in the background because PC-cillen also checks archives too does it not?
4. What is your idle, not-doing-anything, CPU usage?

I agree Rotary but it should still run albeit taking its sweet time rather than crash outright...
How much free disc space do you have? Pagefile size? Corrupted cd?

Well what do you know!! It was the PC-Cillin. I had no idea it scans everything. I guess its more protection than I thought it was. I de-activated it, and my drives dont lock up when Im trying to put some stuff on my computer now. Thanks a lot guys. I just never would of thought...
