At first I was just using DVD Shrink, nothing else... then I learned a bit more and threw DVDfab into the mix... So far I have not had any problems at all just using those two programs.

I've seen in many many posts here that people suggest VobBlanker be used together with these two programs... So, never distrusting you all, I downloaded it, but have not yet unzipped it.

Why should I use it?? I read about it on the download page here, but still don't really understand what it's use is...

Should I use it EVERY time I burn? even though I've never had any problems (since adding dvdfab into the mix)?

Thanks

Because it attempts to clean up the trash left behind by structure protection. It is not needed on all movies, but only some. If you are getting by without it at the moment, there isn't any need for it. If you run into problems in the future you have it. Some people use it to remove FBI trailers and other bits and pieces when they want to keep the menus and special features but don't want the rest.

question about removing the trailers and FBI warnings:::

Does this work differently than if I were to use DVDShrink and insert a still image instead of the video? Do I not have to sit through (or skip through) the same amount of time so that the structure is preserved?

those were poorly stated questions... I know DVD Shrink needs to keep the structure the same so that the menus work still... so the time has to be the same whether its video or an image... Does VobBlanker allow me to not have anything there at all but the menus still working?

Yes VobBlanker actually removes the whole file(cell)

Yep, u answered ur on question correctly, VobBlanker rearanges the whole order thus making the menus work still while blanking stuff out

When i first started to use vobB all i did was process it without blanking anything out, then after a while i starting messing around with it and took out all the FBI warings, and movie trailers, and now i run it everytime.
i even on the dvds where there is a widescreen and fullscreen version of the movie blank one of those out and dont even have to use DVD Shrink.

Picture this, whatever you blank isn't going to be there anymore. If you see something like say, some kind of copywrite message in a foreign language, you're not going to miss it if you blank it. Just make sure to preview everything before you blank it and you will probably be OK. At least I've always been.

Yup, you can preview each portion of the movie, menu, trailers, etc. before blanking(removing) so that you will know what you are getting rid of.

after i run through the VobBlanker process i always skip through the movie to make sure that my menus and everything else works o.k. before i shrink and burn. i usually use windvd or Nero showtime you play your video_ts file. that way if something is messed up you have a chance to fix it. i have had a few menus on the disney movies that don't like to work correctly after i have blanked some things out.

If your not a little scared.....youre not riding hard enough!!!

Why do I need VobBlanker?

Because it's totally FREE, it's fast and it's very useful/powerful. Like the rest have said; VobBlanker will correct/fix any left over corrupted or invalid structural cells, pgc, vts, etc. flawlessly. Furthermore, you can simply "blank, edit, cut out" any unwanted scenes/junks i.e. FBI Warnings, Trailers, special features, etc. and still have a fully functional Menu + the main movie. And yes.. you can simply "blank out" the "full version" and keep the "widescreen version", this will save you a lot of spaces, making it more easier with Nero Recode or DVD Shrink.

You'll be amazed how this tiny program can do so much, it can even convert PAL to NTSC or NTSC to PAL with just a single button.

Good luck to all and enjoy VobBlanker.

WARNING: Do not "update/upgrade" your SAMSUNG BD-D5XXX series (Bluray Player), or else you cant enjoy any of your movie files.
