Hi, I managed to contract Virus Burst with all the symptoms ie task bar alerts etc.
Having looked on this forum I understood that running Roguescanfix was teh best way to get rid of it, sothat is what I did.
However, I now have big problems as my Media Centre OS doesnt work and HP digital imaging monitor gives lots of error messages.
I have run a scan using Hijack This and have pasted it below.
Please help.

OK I have windows XP Media Centre Edition.
Windows works OK but it is the Media Centre bit that doesnt run now.
I get the following error message
eshell.exe Application error
This application failed to initialise {0xc0000135}
After running roguescanfix I believe that Virus Burst has now been erased but I now have this problem.
I will run the checks as you advise but I think roguescanfix must have deleted some system files from windows.
Any help?

Ok, after searching that error I couldn't find a real solution. Best thing to do, wait until we know your clean then repair Windows with the recovery disc(hope you have one).
Edit: before you try repair run Check Disk. Start > Run > type chkdsk > press Enter and let run.

Its a good job I made a recovery disk. Is there a chance of losing any files or programs if I attempt to run this? (i am a bit of a luddite)
But I will do the check disk utility first

Sometimes, but nothing to really worry about. Set a restore point after this just incase. Do this first:
May want to print or copy these instructions to Notepad.
Restart your computer in Safe Mode(press F8 upon boot, select "Safe Mode" from menu).
Double-click smitfraudfix.cmd
Select 2 and hit Enter to delete infect files.
You will be prompted: Do you want to clean the registry ? answer Y (yes) and hit Enter in order to remove the Desktop background and clean registry keys associated with the infection.
The tool will now check if wininet.dll is infected. You may be prompted to replace the infected file (if found): Replace infected file ? answer Y (yes) and hit Enter to restore a clean file.
A reboot may be needed to finish the cleaning process.
No real use in posting the log.
Then, if Check Disk didn't replace the file needed for Media Center, try repairing.
Your Java is out of date. Do this before or after repair, doesn't matter. Go here and download Java 5.0 Update 8. Uninstall any previous versions of Java via Add/Remove Programs. Restart then install Update 8.

No, do not restore! Just set a restore point for today. Then, boot from the recovery disc and try repairing.

Thanks Niobis.
I had a look at what I coulddo and activated a restore point from before the infection.
My PC is now operating fine. I downloaded Ad Aware SE and did a full scan. My PC is now working better than before!
Thanks once again
