Hey there, I've tried to play backup DVD-R's which I created on the computer but it doesnt work on my V12 PS2 (with Modbo Chip, V1.54 Matrix firmware). Ive tried a couple of times and it works on my mates ps2 for some reason. Book-typed DVD-ROM's work though but the problem is, I have a DVD burner that doesn't allow book-typing. Isn't there any way to cure my ps2? It seems really strange as the Modbo is said to play "everything" :S

I could be wrong saying this but I don't think that DVD-R need to be booktyped only the dvd+r's. What media are you using? Also how do you know it only play the booktyped games? Do the other backups work?

I've been using Verbatim DVD-R 16X discs, on which I copy at 4X. These have worked on my mates PS2, who also has a V12 PS2 but different modchip (I think!) I've also tried using these Mitsibushi 8X DVD-R discs which worked for my mate but not for me. He also lended me some backups he had to test my modchip but with no luck. However, he had some DVD-ROM backups which did work flawlessly (but since he's a heavy gamer, its slightly scratched and the video chops in places). I think CD-R based backups work because PS2 Media player booted ok! I think I should just try some DVD+R and booktype them to DVD-ROM. I took the risk of messing with the firmware on my DVD burner to get all burned DVD+R to booktype automatically. Ah well, I think some of the soldered wires might be in the wrong places. I don't think the person who installed it was a real "pro."

Nope it didn't work, PS2 acts the same way as it did before. It completly stops spinning the disc and the red screen comes up.

i have personally used many versions of modbo chips, and have had no problems with games. however, there are too many clone versions out there, so there might be 'variations'.
my guess is to try DVD+R even without booktyping, 4x first. it might help.

I've found the perfect solution. Just yesterday, I took some cheap MR DVD discs (DVD+R) and since I've set the Piodata firmware on my pioneer drive, it automatically booktypes these types of discs. It worked successfully, so my guess is that DVD-ROM discs are probably most superior!
Thanks for the help!

You could also try burning at 2x. I burn all my games at 2x with my NEC 1300A
PS2 NTSC V1
Magic 3.1
Brand new laser
Network ready

NEC 1300A 4x DVD+/-RW
RitekG05 DVD-R
OptodiscR008 DVD-R

Just use ImgBurn to make backups of backups (or backups of comercial DVDs w/ AnyDVD running in background) and you should be able to use it on any computer 100% of the time.
