I'm trying to back up a movie I own and in doing so with DVD Shrink 3.2 I encountered an error. The error goes as follows :

DVD Shrink encountered an error and cannot continue

Failed to read file "D:\"

Data error (cyclic redundancy check)

What does this mean?
At 1st I though it ment my dvd drive was dirty but I cleaned it and the error still poped up after completeing aproximately 9% of the back up.

That's one thing a CRC can mean - disc dirty, scratched or bad press. Or it can mean that Shrink can't hanlde the copy protection.
So try one of these methods - both free:
DVDFabDecrypter/Vobblanker/Shrink:

RipIt4Me:
guide & links to dl

Or not free but has a 21 day free trial - AnyDVD. You can run in the background w/ Shrink to remove the copy protection.
