Quote: Square Enix senior VP Michihiro Sasaki told the Wall Street Journal today that his company is certainly going to support the PS3, but it isn?t going to overdo it. "We don't want the PlayStation 3 to be the overwhelming loser, so we want to support them," he said. "But we don't want them to be the overwhelming winner either, so we can't support them too much."
that is hillarious. so he is trying to single handedly impact the market by supporting the ps3, but only on a certain level. seems like everything else i read now, developers trying to find more ways to make $$$. think about it, if all three systems have a fairly large and loyal fanbase, then there is going to be that much more of a fanbase or consumer market for developers.
i am not saying competition is bad, but obviously i think this comment would be the result of the utter failure of the xbox when compared to the ps2. when i say "failure" i am referring to the number of units sold between the two, so no crying....
say your company makes an exclussive game for the xbox, but becuase everyone has or plays the ps2, your game doesn't really get bought. now if the market were balanced, overall consumer base would be higher which means the greater liklihood that people are going to buy your game. why wouldn't a company want this kind of scenario, i mean think of all the wasted $$$ for developmental costs, production etc a company probably incurred when producing a game for xbox as compared to the same company producing a game for the ps2. its much easier to recoup losses when you have the potential of really selling a game....
Quote:But judging from the Square Enix lineup right now for the Xbox 360, Wii and PS3, it's clear that the PS3 still is the focus for the publisher.
