And what media do you use by the way?Sometimes when people use poor quality media to back up their movies or any data,they can have this kind of bad surprise.

i could be wrong but i believe that illusia is referring to a commercial disk not being recognized. there is another thread right now just started on the shrink forum re "the lake house" being fully playable on a standalone dvd player, xbox, and ps2, but not recognized at all by the computer dvd drive. this person reports no problem with other current releases, including others released today. i'd like to hear an answer too. thanks.

You're talking about dvds already burned but now not recognized, right?? TY4ever is right. Poor quality media can give you that problem. You don't have labels in those, right?? Labels kill dvds and recorders...

like i said, i interpreted what illusia wrote as their computer drives not recognizing a commercial dvd, not a home-burned dvd where questionable quality media could be the culprit. we'll have to wait for illusia to check back in and clarify the matter.

here is the link for the "lake house" commercial dvd (and now a new replacement) that will play on standalone, xbox, and ps2, but is not recognized at all by two computer drives:

http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/399472#2407540

couldn't be low quality media if it is a brand new commercial dvd that is recognized by so many other hardware devices, could it? both disks, new and then new replacement?

You may be right surfgeo, there may be a new animal on the loose (a new encryption, that is). Let's wait for illusia's response.

Enjoy the waves and your tanning!!!

Hey surfgeo,i just had a look on the link you gave and about that commercial dvd that can't be played/recognized by only computers,that's very weird,specially when the another replacement showed the same result.But i think it might be a kind of new protection that the company has been able to come with and has put it in that dvd,protecting the dvd from being ripped and copied.If it's really a new copy-protection,that's what would explain the dvd being able to play on any standalone dvd player,ps2 and xbox360 but not on pcs because it's only on pcs that most people would rip and burn.

@ty4ever

yeah, it sounds pretty weird what is happening for kris29 over on the other thread. he just reported that his dvd rom will read and play the commercial disk, but not his dvd burner, which reports "no disk"... go figure. hope someone can figure it out. hard to imagine that they have incorporated a protection scheme that can differentiate between a dvd-rom drive and a DVD-RW drive. i suppose it is possible. though you should be able to rip from the dvd-rom. i'll go back and suggest that to kris29. i also asked him to confirm that his burner will read other current disks.

surfgeo,you got a good point here.Well after you said that the guy in the other thread can actually play the dvd in his dvd-rom but not in his burner,he can still rip the dvd using his dvd-rom and then uses his burner just to burn it.That's how i do it too.I have two burners and one dvd-rom on my pc and everytime i have to rip a movie,i use only the dvd-rom,like this i save my burners' lens from getting used too much...heyhey!Afterall they're much pricy than dvd-rom.Here's my logic about that:)

Have a nice day,Aloha!(right?)
