I bought a PS2 with a Disc Read Error problem, was supposed to play CDs and nothing else. The seller lied and had actually damaged a vital piece of circuitry on the servos so the the laser unit didn't move.

I replaced the innards of the DVD drive with that of another I had and knew worked but was from a slightly different model PS2. However I'm now stuck as the drive won't spin. Looking at the ribbon cable, the pins are actually on the opposite side of the cable.

The question for anyone who's experienced in PS2 repair is : is the motor fault or does having a ribbon cable I have to put in upside down so it connects mean I've reversed the polirity? If so, am I screwed? I've never heard of adapters for ribbon cables to flip the connections and stripping the casing of ribbon cables without breaking the circuit is near impossible.
