One other thing I forgot you asked,LOL, I like discs with the dark purple AZO dye. Verbatim, Taiyo Yuden, and Ritek all use this layer for recording.

Also, I never burn over 4x and sometimes less on movies, and never over 1x on games. Higher burn speeds can and do cause errors..

Hey Craig...you still around? I hope so! Anyway, I did as you directed and everything burned A-OK. Just for kicks I decided to recreate the problems I had before. I decrypted/ripped with DVD Decrypter then I encoded/burned from DVD9 to DVD5 with Nero Recode and BAM! the problem happened again. Thankfully I am experimenting with DVD+RWs now so I didn't make a permanent coaster.

Another test I did was to Rip/Encode/Burn with DVDShrink and automatically pull up Nero and that worked like a charm.

Hmm,

I've seen a few other posts with users haveing trouble with Nero and content created by DVD Dycriptor. Normally we do not have any issues. Looks like I need to do some testing in this area to see if there are any problems.

Thanks for your feedback EMTJay.

Hey, we're glad you're burning up a storm :)
Consider this an invitation, stop on back, don't be a stranger, you're welcome even if you don't have problems to solve -

You can just "Hang out" and read some, improve your knowledge, help others if you can spot their problem, 3 heads are better than 2 (said the Cyclops to the Ogre). You can check out our forums on Home Theater components, Games, p2p topics or even cellular phones Or you could hang out in the "Safety Valve," a forum for gossiping about anything and everything under the sun :)
Check de place out, you just might find a little something that'll interest you -

Me ? Hey, I'll be over there, out from under that broiling hot sun, under the "Potted" Palm, right next to the water cooler. Just chewin' the fat and waiting for the next Newbie who needs a bit "O" help - Stop by and say "Howdy" -

I'll be lQQking forward to Sea'n you,

Cheers my friend,

Pete :P)

Wanted to say thank you for the help. I have been using shrink in conjuntion with DVDD and cloneDVD2. Shink works great and for those hard to break css i use DVDD. CloneDVD2 allowes me to edit the movie to my liking. So far i haven't run into any DVD that i couldn't backup.

BigOrange, I know I'm asking you to hold my hand so to speak while I do this but hey that's what you're here for right?? Just kidding I take all of your comments as serious advice.

Today I used your guide and DVD Decrypter and it ran nicely. Tried to use DVDD and Shrink but had problems trying to understand and follow the Quickie Shrink guide but that's probably because I still don't know what I'm doing! So I'm trying the DVDD and Recode 2 combination. If this doesn't work, I'll try the AnyDVD and Recode2 combination.

Regarding this statement: "It wouldn't hurt to download and install either DVD Identifier or Dvdinfopro and check your media manufacturer out. Infopro has lots of other uses too. Both have free versions which is all you need." Which should I download? I don't want 2 programs doing the same thing, remember I'm the one looking for the "simple" method.

Thanks, Mike

BigOrange, Pete, Craig, just finished my first burn and it failed. Guess that's not a new sentence for you guys to hear! I folowed Pete's excellent guide for using DVDD to Nero Recode 2 that he posted on page 1, have all the latests upgrades to Nero 6 Ultra Edition as well as the latest DVD Decrypter and Shrink 3.2 editions. The Nero Help Manual for Recode 2 is way out of date. It doesn't show the correct buttons and functions on their latest update. In fact in the current Recode2 Help Manual there's a paragraph about not recreating that particular help section and screens because they say nothing is different. That is NOT TRUE. The latest update is different. I don't know what the previous Recode2 looked like because I never used it, but the current one is different than their help manual/menu. I wish Nero would update their Help Manuals to match the updates, especially when they issue updates with added features.

I used DVD Decrypter to do it's thing and as far as I could tell from my little knowledge it decrypted just like it's supposed to. Then I fired up Recode2, pointed it to the VIDEO_TS folder and Imported what I thought was the correct Menu, the one you'd see on any DVD where you see and click on Play and the movie starts. Then I imported the Main Movie Title.

In Recode2 I checked the box for DTS 5.1 Channel English since my main player will play DTS, unchecked the regular Dolby 5.1 Channel English, there were also 2 Dolby Digital 2-Ch English selections that I also unchecked. I had the same settings for both the menu and the movie.

Sometimes watching and sometimes not watching for the 45 minutes it took for Recode2 and Nero6 to Analyze, Encode and Burn it appeared everything went alright. No error messages, and at the end of the burn I got a Successful Burn sound indicator from Nero6.

When it was finished I put it into my DVD-ROM to see what I'd created. Menu opened offering various programs to view the newly backed up DVD, I selected the Nero ShowTime program and let it go. The Play menu appeared complete with music but no functionality meaning pushing Play didn't do anything. At the end of that 35second menu when the movie started to automatically play I got a message from ShowTime that says "Due to patent restrictions the DVD-Video will be played without audio". I pushed the OK button and the movie plays beautifully with with no audio.

I have the log from Recode2 and will post it in a seperate posting so you guys can look and see if you can tell what I did to create a "static" non functional menu and a movie with video but no audio.

All help will be greatly appreciated. As always, thanks, Mike

Here's the log entry from Recode2. Please look at it guys and see if you can tell what I did wrong. I hope it truncates the long lines in the log. Thanks, Mike

One other things guys, most all the time when I click on one of the links you encorporate such as to the Ritek web site for good disks, or even to the ScubaPete web site for the great guides, I constantly get redirected to http://media.fastclick.net/w/get.media?sid=9388&m=5&url=http%3A//www.dvdplusvideo.com/

So I shut down the redirected window, which puts me back to this AfterDawn forum, the link I've just clicked on clearly shows the media.fastclick.net web site above. So I hit Refresh, the media.fastclick.net URL goes away, I click on the link again and finally go to the URL I'm supposed to be at.

I also get an enormous amount of pop-up windows on this web site, and yes I have service pack 2 and pop up blocker is activated. Any ideas about those 2 issues?

3 more pop-up windows just trying to log in so that I can add this big of information! The movie I tried to back-up is The Day After Tomorrow, probably on double layer disk because there were far more Menues and Extras than any Guide accounts for. I followed Pete's excellent Guide for DVD D to Nero Recode2 that he posted on page 1.

Thanks, Mike

Hi Mike,

As far as the "fastclick" stuff - I spoke with the admins about all the problems I had and the amount of "Data Miners" it left in my PC for Ad-aware to clean up and they assured me they were all harmless. They said it was necessary for the advertisers to track activity on the site.

For the "fast-click" stuff, go to the upper right corner and click "Skip" to go to the desired site.

We deal with what we're stuck with.

If you have any questions, let me know - better they get pissed with me than you for asking questions - Pple don't much like questions around here -

Pete

Pete, thanks for BOTH messages! I give a whole new meaning to the word newbie!

Regarding the Book type, I didn't set it at any time during the entire process. I don't even know when or where to set it. I used DVDD per the Guide and fumbled through Recode2 using the User Manual that Ahead has posted and it's for a previous version that doesn't match up in several places with the latest Recode2 version.

In the log I posted I just noticed 2 places where it indicates incorrect Book Type:

5:44:29 PM #24 Text 0 File DVDR.cpp, Line 5286
Drive: SONY DVD RW DRU-710A
Book Type request: DVD-ROM
Book Type setting not supported for the loaded disc type

6:14:33 PM #29 Text 0 File DVDR.cpp, Line 5286
Drive: SONY DVD RW DRU-710A
Book Type request: DVD+R
Book Type setting not supported for the loaded disc type

Then several places that it correctly references Book Type DVD-R which is the type of disk that was in my Sony burner.

I used a Fuji DVD-R which is what I use in my DMR-HS2 all the time and they give a great finished product.

Is Book Type the type of DVD that's loaded in the burner? Or is it something I set in Nero6 at some point before or during the burn process? When or where do I set that? OR are you saying that it's the manufacturer of the disk that caused the problem? What about my problem getting a non-functional menu item? I might as well have not included it in the burn, it function at all. In played then went right into the movie without me doing anything. Do you guys include a usable Play menu in your back-ups? If so, to what purpose? I know that's alot of questions in one paragraph but it's everything that I can think of to ask at once. I'll try another burn right now and post the results.

After using DVDD, switching to Recode2 and telling it which files to burn, then hitting Burn the entire rest of the process was automatic. Recode2 and Nero6 worked by themselves. The Recode2 and Nero6 process took approximately 47 minutes to burn this coaster.

Thanks, Mike

Mike, as Craig mentioned to me earlier he has been seeing a few people post problems about Nero Recode 2 burning files from DVDDecrypter. Try using DVDShrink and go to the I/O Options and have it automatically burn using Nero. That works like a charm for me. It takes about 45 mins to an hour for each movie, but that has worked perfectly for me so far.

Jay, thanks for the advice. My problem is that I'm having a difficult time understanding how Shrink works. The guides I've read, printed and followed don't seem to work for me. Everybody else seems to be a whiz at using Shrink 3.2.0.15 but it's very confusing to me. Maybe I was just born stupid!!

I've printed the appropriate guides from ScubaPete's web site, but some of them either don't fit the program or what I see when I open the programs, or the directions to changing options on the tabs don't match. I have the latest versions of DVDD and Shrink installed.

SCUBAPETE - my comment above isn't meant to be a nasty crack about your guides, they're great. So it must be ME thats stupid OR I'm doing something wrong. I hope I didn't offend you!!

Right now I'm using Fuji DVD-R's to burn to as I have plenty of them. I'll switch to DVD+RW's for practice burning, but those won't work as my "final burn" product. My primary and only DVD player, the Panasonic DMR-HS2 only reads DVD-R and DVD-RAM disks. That's where the Ritek disks will come in, BUT I want to get the ripping, burning process down pat before I start using those.

I hope the helpful friendly guys that helped EMTJay are still hanging out in this message thread, I'd certainly welcome their help and advice.

Thanks guys, Mike

Hi Tallguy53(Mike),

The BookType setting can be controlled from the OPTIONS window for the recorder. In Nero Express this is located at the end in the 'Final Burn' window, where you will see the options button located next to the drop down box where you select your model recorder. In Nero Burning ROM this is located under Recorder->Choose Recoder window and the OPTIONS button located there.

By default, we have it set to change the BookType to DVD-ROM for best playback compatibility on DVD Players. Your excerpts from the Nero log file only indicated that the Sony Recorder did not support changing the bookType for that brand of media. So it would have remained a DVD-R BookType. This should not cause a 'coaster', though some DVD Players may indeed have trouble playing the disc. Any DVD-ROM player or DVD Recorder on your computer should not have that issue.

To truly see what is going on, we would need to see the full Nero log file from the write attempt to see if there were other error messages that could lend a clue as to what is not occurring properly.

Regards,

Craig

My question this time is how am i able to delete Nero so that when i download it again, it will allow me to use the trial version once more. Is there a way to do so? Cannot afford to buy it right now but definitely will in the future.. also any other good dvd burning software thats free and as simple as Nero?

AudiRacer, just use Add and Remove program feature under Control Panel. You can also use Nero Clean tools to competely remove all remnants in the registry.

Craig,

Thanks a bunch for telling me where to find the Book Set option, obviously I haven't looked at all the settings for Nero 6 Ultra Edition. When I use Nero6 to back up my documents, movie clips, pictures, etc., I use the default settings without any problems. Since making DVD backups is a little more tricky I don't want to change anything other than what you guys tell me I need to change to burn a good back-up and not another coaster.

Just purchased my first Ritek 100 pack of G08 8x DVD-R's from Meritline.com so those are on the way. I'll remember not to burn over 4x as advised by all.

Since I don't have any of those right now, I'm going to use another Fuji -R and try to back-up the movie I,Robot. I printed out every guide ScubaPete has on his web site plus a lengthy one from DVDRHelp.com I'm going to try the DVDD and Shink combination and will post my results.

That didn't work our too well, now I'll try the Shrink to Nero Guide from Pete's web site and post results.

If anybody has anymore tips and pointers PLEASE SEND them my way!

Thanks again guys for your help, Mike

OK, here's the URL for clean tools.

http://www.ahead.de/us/Utilities.html

Make sure you use the Nero 6 download, not Nero 5. Then install and run following the prompts. Then go back to Nero trial version of Ultra 6 and download and install all 3 packs. You're good for another month.

It's best to do this at the beginning of the month since it's only good for that month, not 30 days from the install. The following month you must do it all over again. It is a bit of a hassle, but considering you're getting an entire suite of audio and video apps for free as long as you wish, it's not too bad.

I highly recommend purchasing Ultra 6 when you can afford it. It's one of my favorite programs. Good luck :>)

It sounds like registry remnants are remaining, or nero has changed their trial.

Have you tried Registry Checker and DriverClean Tool? It's under the nero clean tools.

Try contacting Nero to see if they have changed their trial period and I will see if i can contact Craig with Nero. he will know.

Just a thought...

Did you try this without unchecking any of the English audio to see what happens? Does your player needs to be setup for DTS first or does your player default to one of the other audio preferences?
