If you have the latest AnyDVD ver. 5.9.4.3 then use the built in ripper in the program. Rip to your HDD and the process with Clone, Shrink or Recode. The AnyDVD ripper works and you will not have a need for VobBlanker as it fixes the cells as it rips. Right click on the red fox in the tray and then choose rip to HDD.

All said and done with no errors etc, so just to avoid making 2 costers i checked the first 1/2 prior to burning the 2nd half---and voila! great quality - but only directors commentary ..... bummer .... do you know what i did? plz help!! thanx! * oops * posted 2x on same forum - i didnt see it above on my screen thought i did something wrong and redid it -- sorry --- (yes i'm new here :) )

When using reauthor in Shrink, look at the compression settings and make sure you only choose the 5.1 audio, the directors comments are usually 2 channel. Just uncheck all the audio but the 5.1 or 6 channel. Don't worry about your player not playing it if you do not have Home Theater, it will demux it down to 2 channel. Also did you try the audio button on your remote to change to 5.1, that may get rid of the DC's.

-- arniebear -- thank you - i actually just tried it in a newer/better DVD player and like magic it played the reg movie - so it must have something to do with the settings on the cheapo DVD player i tried it on originally- thank you

@dustysmom

Glad it worked for you, the cheapie player is just defaulting to 2 channel if that player has an audio button on the remote just change the audio to 5.1 and it should work on that one too. Next time you back up just don't choose the 2 channel. Happy burning :)

Ok, I need some help to burn this movie. I've only done this once before and I need to know what to do step by step. Also, I need to take the movie and be able to put it in a folder that can be shared over a network and then burned with Nero after I shrink it down. on another computer as I don't have a dvd burner and my brother won't take them off dvd's... confusing much. If anyone can guide me throught his i'll be so greatful I did harry potter with decrypter without any problems and i'm so confused as to how to even start...I went through the past post and did download dvdfab but I don't know how to use it and then shink to get the file ready to burn. That's probably really confusing...but can anyone help?

I finally had to join the forum so I could throw my 2 cents in here. Some people give great advice and it's ignored. Others don't say what they are trying to do exactly or what the exact errors are. Those that do often get sloppy answers that lack the crucial information. Still others don't use version numbers with software that is being upgraded day to day. Some don't understand what tools do what. Some don't even understand the issue, yet give advice.

The issue is not burning a valid backup of Geisha from HD to DVD as a few seem to think. The issue is getting the valid backup on HD in the first place.

FYI for some: Nobody should care if you use DVD Shrink or Nero Recode. It's not relevent to the issue. They do the same thing. NR costs money. DVD Shrink is free. I prefer DVD Shrink (so what?). BTW, someone wanted to know how to split a movie in DVD Shrink. Answer: Reauthor, then right click Title 1 then select Set Start/End Frames.... (or click Set Start/End Frames button). It's a wonderful feature that allows you to avoid all compression and is available in Nero Recode also.

I read the entire thread and am convinced AnyDVD will do the trick according to knowledgable and even some articulate people who say so. However, I don't own it and thought I should try free DVDFab Decrypter Express before purchasing AnyDVD. Notice how I specify "Express". That's important specific information. It's free. I upgraded my old version to the newest which became available Apr 5. It is version 2.9.7.5. It's available at DVDIdle.com/free.htm." class="korostus" target="_blank">http://www.DVDIdle.com/free.htm.

Use DVDFab Decrypter 2.9.7.5 to rip the dvd to your hard drive. Then open in DVD Shrink (v 3.2.0.15). Backup the whole thing or re-author to just title1 and your sound choice. Worked like a charm whereas a lot of other methods and tools I tried did not.

We're not discussing how to get it from your HD to a blank DVD. Also, there is no need to discuss system requirements or media quality or hard disk size, etc, etc, etc. Those issues are not specific to the Geisha issues.

Hope I helped some of you even if I am a bit grumpy.

@grumpier

You are correct, DVDFab Decrypter will get the job done, also free DVD43 will probably work. AnyDVD will work if you have it. However there are some files that do require VobBlanker or FixVTS for them to be compliant, so these two programs, which also are free, are good to have. It is not that hard and if people will have a little patience with the programs they will get their backup done.

I agree. It's not that hard. In fact it's very easy. But, there are one or two important details one has to pay attention to.

Regarding M.O.A. Geisha, I used Clone DVD2 ONLY, for just the main title with no problem. Took 25-30 min. tops.
Try it out.
Any DVD was running in the background, but don't know if this was a factor, although I did not have to shrink from DVD Clone?

reply to arniebear- DVD43 does not work, I tried with that and failed.
First movie DVD43 hasn't worked on and consequently I have since switched to AnyDVD, the free version from BearShare with the crack.
Once the copy protections are removed almost any program will copy the movie to dvd.
Worst case is spring for a DL DVD and forget compression about $4 a DVD.
I like 1ClickDVD myself for removing extras but like I said "almost any program will copy the DVD once the copy protection is gone".

I have never used CloneDVD, but a quick glance at a description on this site tells me it does the same thing as any dvd recoding software that sets up the video structure and allows you to reauthor. i.e. the same as DVDShrink or Nero Recode, etc.

So, AnyDVD had everything to do with it. That's the tool that decrypted the original which is what this thread is about. I don't know if CloneDVD decrypts anything like DVDShrink does. However, I bet it won't decrypt Geisha adequately. Try backing up Geisha without DVDAnywhere running and I don't think you will enjoy the same success.

Also, if you did not shrink with DVDClone then you must have used a dual layer DVD, since title 1, all by itself, even without sound is over 5GB.

It's a purchased version, but I also used it with it's 21 trial version, I never had any problems with that version either.

To the mod: I don't get it, is this hipocracy?
This thread is devoted to work arounds to copyright protections.
No matter how you spell it- p-i-r-a-c-y, a-r-c-h-i-v-a-l backup or c-r-a-c-s, it's all the same thing.
I missed the fact that SLYSOFT is a sponsor for this site, perhaps they are a sacred cow and what is OK for the Goose is off limits for the Gander, it's both ironic and amusing that a company whose bread and butter comes from aiding in "backing up movies" becomes a victim of piracy themselves. :) LOL!
P.S. Please take note I have carefully avoided posting the C work!

now how did i guess my post would result in the proverbial reply of "we're talking about ripping films so why aren't discssions of cracks allowed". this site does indeed cater for certain things but cracks are a no-no.
How about we get back to the topic ie Geisha, and leave cracks for the sites out there that cater for that kind of stuff.

Okay back to the solutions....For me, the latest version of DVDFab Decrypter: 2.9.7.5, along with the latest version of AnyDVD: 5.9.5.6 running in the background worked fine. Used Nero to burn. I've had issues with shrink in the past, so switched to Nero and have no complaints. I do however agree with grumpier as they really do do the same thing. I also prefer AnyDVD to DVD43, they do the same, just my preference. CloneDVD is also a great program and it is actually my choice when backing up movies, but they haven't really been updating it too much lately, and it doesn't always work with the arrcos discs, Geisha included. I guess it depends on the computer as I see that it has worked for others though.

If neither DVDFab by itself or clone doesn't work for you, scroll back in this thread and check the post from alkohol, as his post should definitely help you out.
