I've been using DVD Shrink with AnyDVD to rip and save DVDs to my HD since I started this hobby. (About 1 year ago) I use Roxio to burn the ISOs at a max speed of 8X on strictly TY media. I have never had any difficulties ripping. My burn success rate is above 99%. If I were to give advice to someone having problems with the process it would be:
Rip with DVD Shrink with AnyDVD running in the background
(Keep AnyDVD up to date)

Save the image as an ISO file

Burn with Roxio, (or your fav prog...I don't think it matters)

Use TY media...(real good stuff)


Of course this is just my .02 but I see a lot of people having problems ripping...so I thought I would just pitch in.

I use AnyDVD, DVD Decrypter and Shrink for most of my movies but CloneDVD will handle those Shrink can't (Curious George and Tokyo Drift)

I just have a question? Why are you creating an ISO image file?
After I use DVDshrink I just drag my video_TS folder into my burning program (Recordnow) and that's it. I always burn at 4x and it takes about 12 minutes.
I will tell I use to make an image file then burn when I first started but I found out it was not required. Just interested.

I've never tried that way...about how long does it take you to rip a 2 hour movie?

i just run my movies through DVDFab, then VobBlanker, and run it through Nero Recode 2, and have never had any problems. I will stick with this process until i have problems. just like the saying goes, "if it's not broke, don't fix it"

Some of the original burning programs (like DVD Decrypter) only accepted ISO image files as input. Programs still convert files ultimately to ISOs to burn as the ISO file is a digital bit by bit representation of the DVD (to be) burned. ImgBurn also requires an ISO file for burning although it will create the ISO file from a folder of video files first if one is provides as input.

For a 2 hour movie like "T3" it usually takes a little over an hour to rip a movie after DVDshrink has analyzed it. I have never had a movie take more than 1 1/2 hours to rip and most will rip just under an hour. I am not too concerned about the time. I usually do other things while its doing its thing.

A little over an hour seems like a long time. I use a 3Ghz P4C which takes around 17 to 22 minutes. My 2.8Ghz P4C takes slightly longer. Both are HT machines. Burns on both take about 8-9 minutes @ 8X.

That may be the reason. Right now I am running a Dell 800Mhz. It may take a little longer to rip but it still produces a good quality DVD. I am in the process of building a new computer AMD64 3200 (MB ASUS A8N-E). I should have it together this weekend. I have all the parts I just need to find the time to put it together. Then I can see how fast I can rip a movie. My Dell if fine for DVD burning, I bought the new computer for other reasons but if it improves the speed then that is just a added bonus.
