While using DVD Shrink and DVD Decrypter.
Even though all power settings are set to never when plugged into AC.
If I use AnyDVD and CloneDVD I do not have this problem, but CloneDVD is slower than mollases in January. I'm trying to backup a disk set of the Cartoon Flintstones Season 1 (I'd rather not let my son scratches the originals.) and CloneDVD is taking about 5 hours to rip one DVD, whereas DVDDecrypter takes about 20 min. When I open the ISO in DVDShrink try to encode and burn with DVDDecrypter if I'm not careful to get up and move the mouse once in awhile the computer shuts down then I have to start all over again. Is there some DVDShrink setting I've got ticked that I shouldn't.
Not badmouthing AnyDVD and CloneDVD, some DVD's they breeze right through and they make good backups regardless of the time they take.
Some DVD's, especially those with multiple 30 min. shows they chugg along for what seems like forever.
Any ideas

My advice would be that PC's are better handled for backing up dvds rather than laptops. the shuting down could be becuz of overheating of the CPU. as shrink takes up 100% of the CPU processes

Also if thats all u have then try turning off the screen saver when using shrink and dont multi-task also.

U can also use AnyDVD with shrink, if clone is taking too long.

Also have u done a virus scan, Defrag the HD, Cleaned out the registry, these can all help with the speed of ur laptop.

Also how much ram do u have?

I don't think that's the problem. My personal opinion is DVDShrink, which is no longer being updated, is no longer compliant with some recent change to laptop power settings, which were within this last year made by Microsoft.
This is a very powerful laptop that is over five years old. It's is faster than most desktops and is being used as one. It is faster than 99% of the laptops sold today, because no compromise was made on extending battery life.
The fan in it can be heard from two feet away above that of a rather large hepa filter fan, which is four feet away and is pointed at the power supply of of a Logitech 5.1 surround sound system that overheats when the volume is maxed out for long periods of time. In the five years I've owned this laptop, I've burnt up two Klipsch and three Logitech 5.1 THX certified Dolby DTS surround sound systems. I know what overheating is.
I can go to Wally World and purchase fifteen $5.50 bargain bin titles, and spend all day backing them up with any other program. The program I prefer to use has recently started choking on them. I can no longer use DVDShrink to do unattended backups. I have to wander into the room on occasion and move the mouse to keep the laptop up and running.
If overheating was the problem, moving the mouse shouldn't affect the outcome. Decrypter will rip and burn with no problems, it's DVDShrink that chokes. Is there some setting I've altered in preferences that may have caused this problem? Barring that is there some recent update I can rollback to stop this laptop from shutting down, when it's not supposed to when plugged into AC.

So what are ur Specs of the Laptop?
Ram?
Processor?

What other transcoding programs do u use? u said clone, does it shutoff when using CloneDVD, am not sure how much CPU power Clone uses as i dont use that program.

Do u have Nero?

BTW ur PC or Laptop will never overheat when using DVD Decrypter becuz it takes up only about 5% of the CPU power
I guess wait for other members thoughts on this.
