I can rip with Shrink and create ISO files for my movies but when I try to burn them with IMGburn or DVD Decrypter I get the above error messages. No writers detected is a new one though! Any help?

Focus Servo Error causes:

Bad media - try another brand..Verbatim, Taiyo Yuden, Maxell (MIJ)
Poor/Bad PSU - make sure that your PSU connections are seated correctly.
Dirty drive - blow out with some canned air.
ASPI corrupt - Check to make sure that if ASPI is installed, it is working properly.

EDIT: I have to ask...do you have a DVD Burner?

I use various kinds of media - sony, maxell, imation and all have burned in the past. I think I should pursue the PSU connection idea. What is it and how do I find it? Also, sometimes the massage comes back, searching for asci/something else connection, so it may be that. How do I ASPI is working properly. Thanks for your help.

Power Supply Unit...You have to open your case, it's where your PC plugs into from the wall.

Download and run Nero InfoTool:

http://www.afterdawn.com/software/cdr_so...o_info_tool.cfm

Run the program and check System ASPI, if you have Nero installed you can check to see if it is corrupt as well. While you have that program running click the "Drive" tab and tell us the exact model number of your drive and your current firmware version.

the exact model number for the drive is Matshita DVD-RAM UJ 811.

The Nero info tool says ASPI is not installed. What do I do now? Thanks

Above is a little thread about your drive. You don't need ASPI installed, XP can burn without it but if it is installed and corrupt you could be seeing problems. As for your firmware, you don't specify the current version you are using. NEC or IBM laptop?

I am using a Sony Vaio notebook PCG-FRV37. I think the firmware is H102. Does that make sense?? The thread has convinced me that the drive is really a bad one and since I am under warranty maybe I better take it in for a diagnostic and let them figure it out??
