I recently purchased a stack of Saehan 1x DVD-r discs to use in my LG 2x DVD-r burner. The other day I was burning an ISO file with DVDDecrypter set at 1x, but for some reason the program went ahead with the burn at 2x (maybe my drive isn't fully supported for burning).
Anyway, I expected a coaster, but actually ended up with a perfect burn in half the time. Has anyone else had this experience? Is a 1x media designation a recommendation, or a solid speed limit? I have gone back to 1x since this, but wonder if I am just wasting half an hour per burn...

Most modern half-decent 1x media will burn at 2x without issue. In fact, even the terrible old E-Net/Bulkpaq 1x white media from last year will burn for me at 2x with no worse a burn than when burned at 1x.

People who have used detailed anlysis tools may not agree. Certain media (Ritek G03, for example) doesn't suffer much when burnt at 2x, whereas others, while still readable on your burner are objectively worse in general. They wont play on some dvd players, some wont play in the PS2 or XBOX at 2x, or in other DVD-ROMs. When you measure the read speed and error rate on these discs, they are higher (note dvds are error resistant using parity, so even though your disc is readable, its slower because your player is having to recalculate all the bad blocks of data using parity.)

I have Pioneer 104 f/w 1.31 2X4allRitek
The Ritek G03 burnt at X2 give me errors on outer edge everytime (have only wasted 4 disc trying this...differing methods but at X2)

DVD Decrypter is awkward with deciding to burn at maximum speed , this is why I do not use it to burn with (even though 104 is a supported drive by Decrypter)

Gonna try a batch of CloneDisc X2 (ritek) next & see what results I get from these

[ The Ritek G03 is 100% good blank media for me at X1 burn & mores to the point is a highly compatible disc with a variety of stand alone players , just gives me a mare at X2 burn ]

I think I'll stick with 1X burning for now...
