What exactly is this Final Fantasy XII beta?

There is a Final Fantasy XII beta (USA version) floating around the internet. I realize recently there was a convention that supposedly held a 'fully playable' version of FFXII so my best guess would be this is it.

I do not condone downloading it because that would be illegal, though it still has struck my curiosity as to whether or not it is the entire game.

If anyone has any information on that I would be most appreciative.

Yes, it will be the full game, but the retail may have small cosmetic changes from that version.
Store games are alpha versions. The stage before that is beta. These are often as close to final code as you can get, and are usually the versions sent to magazines for review purposes.
