Good Evening Ladies & Gentlemen.

I'm working on a project to stream media across my college's network. I've been looking at Windows Media Encoder v9 (and had some success with live streams etc), but I'm looking at streaming Classroom materials (Old VHS/DVD media) via our network. these streams are probably going to be on demand. Maybe even on a per student basis (so each student can access the streams independantly).

So, I'm looking for hardware and software to do the actual streaming, as well as hardware/software/codecs to actually convert & encode the source material.

Some Additional Info before going any further

We have 1500 clients (probably 20% will demand concurrent streaming).
We are introducing VLAN's to cut down traffic and improve QOS.
We are setting up a VLAN explicitly for streaming
We use Windows XP Pro at the client end.
We will need to use Subs for DDA or people with no sound capabilities.
We need to be mindful of bandwidth (obviously ;0)
I have no budjet constraints(at the moment :0().

It's quite a nice project, and I'm looking forward to it. But I want to look further than windows media services and possibly identify a product or service that can do better.
