I attempted to flash my xbox 360, had all the equipment and stuff ready (including a SATA cable)...then realised I don't have enough SATA ports (just the 1 for my hard drive).
I'm aware of SATA PCI cards, and am thinking of buying one due to my pc having 2 free slots, however is there an alternative? My 360 has a Hitachi drive, if it makes any difference.
Also, if there are no other alternatives, can someone recommend a PCI card?

Get one with the SIL3112a chipset. I can guarantee that it works with the Hitachi drive and also SLAX will work with it to put the drive in modeb.

You can buy an adapter that plugs into your IDE port on your MOBO turing it into a single ATA port for about 10 bucks on ebay.

I'm not sure I understand you. You are saying that the IDE to SATA converter doesn't work, well then I'm not sure how you explain how i have two of them working right now. One is in a Soyo motherboard and one is in a Sony desktop (not sure of the mobo) and they are working just fine. These are not add on PCI cards, mind you, but a card than plugs directly onto the IDE mobo port. Both motherboards are fairly old. Again, my two work just fine!

Can anyone besides Jlts1 confirm the IDE to SATA converters work? If so, that would be very useful indeed.

i believe when he said the IDE to sata converters do not work, he was refering to that they will not work to flash the 360's drive, not that they will not allow a IDE HD or DVD drive to be plugged into a sata port.

Right...thank you all for your help, and have recently recieved the above pci card (thanks to BurningAs :D) .....unfortunatly only to fall at the first hurdle! (the mode b one that is). My ignorance and lack of research led me to believe that my Asus A89-SLi deluxe mobo would suppoort the Slax CD, alas unfortunatly it doesn't. The two wire trick is definately not an option....as my electronics skills are sufficiently lacking.
So how can I go about getting into Mode b. I've seen connectivity kits, such as the ones from Xecuter, but am unsure how exactly they go about their business, if anyone can enlighten me it would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks!

Well you got the card that supports a Samsung drive. If you have a hitachi drive, order a card with the SIL3112a chipset.
It would really help if you told us which drive you have..

I have a Hitachi drive...says in the first post if you look carefully.
Sorry I meant to 'thanks to PS2 Menace' recommending the SIL3112a chipset in my above post, not BurningAs (sorry), as he recommended a card suitable for Samsung drives, when post 1 says I have a Hitachi.
Anyway, I've discovered my motherboard does not support the slax cd way of turning the drive to mode b, from other users. This means i need to buy a connectivity kit. Any recommendations?
