Replacing HDD on DVD Recorder

I would like to upgrade the HDD on my Sony RDR-HX715 to a larger drive. What will I need to do? I've read that it can be done on some recorders but not others. While on the topic...when the DVD burner goes bad, I'd also want to replace it. Is this possible without having to send the unit back to Sony and spending a mint? I'm hoping it's as easy as upgrading a PC which is relatively easy.
