What is the latest "free" version of "DVDFab"? Is it a good all encompassing program? Where can I obtain this version? Thanks Ronnies

Hey ronnies
The latest free version - dvdfab decrypter- is 3.0.2.0. It's a ripper only.
http://www.dvdidle.com/free.htm

You can rip with that & open those files in Shrink or run thru VobBlanker 1st to be on the safe side.
Here's a guide:

Hello binkie7 I am trying to backup "The Notorious Betty Paige" and have used "DVD Decrypter" ( the older version) and "DVDFab29" with no success. To be honest Binkie, I think "VoBBlanker" may be a little beyond my technical prowess??? I have looked at "VoBBlanker" readouts and it appears to be very complicated. It just looks that way. I will need a simplified step by step guide to achieve success. Then again - maybe I can do it??? Tell me it's not that complicated to use. Hopefully and thankfully Ronnies

See your thread here too :)
http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/402919

This one has nothing special on it. Even Shrink can handle it.

What error are you getting?

Vobblanker's not that bad :) alkohol has a great step by step guide.

But let's check that error 1st.

edit: oops! added link above.

Hello Binkie: I just downloaded the latest versiom of "DVDFab" and ran "The Notorious Betty Paige" movie thru it and then to "DVD Shrink". I got all the way thru it and I got a blurb stating that I didn't have the right burner???? I've used this method for a long time and never saw that message. SO< I ran it again this time inserting the media after the "Encode" was finished. Binkie7, I thought I had it. But during the burn session, I got crash, and restart... That's as close as I have come with this movie. Something is just not right... Thanks for all of your fantastic help. ronnies

When you say crash and restart did the pc just shutdown & restart?

Any error message?

Sounds like the pc maybe overheating - crashing and restart can mean the pc is trying to 'protect' itself.

Have you done a disc cleanup and a defrag recently? If not try doing that 1st.

Have the media in the drive before encoding.

Hello Binkie7: After another run through with the latest DVDFab, almost through the "Encode" I got the all too familiar blurb " DVD Shrink encountered an error and cannot continue. Programming error - exception occurred". I guess I'm just not ready for these latter encrypted movies... Thanks again. Ronnies

Nah you're ready - this one doesn't have any of the newer stuff on it.
Run a disc cleanup and defrag 1st still.

Then take those files from dvdfab decrypter and run them thru VobBlanker. Here's a step by step guide:

Binkie7
I will try all that you said. I really thank you so much for hanging in there with me. I wasn't brought up with computers. (Structural designer - pure math crunching with slide rule and then calculators)
I am not too good at computer logic - not familiar with all of the terms. You definitive help has helped me and given me a kick in the A__. Thanks again. Ronnies

binkie7: I printed the "Guide" to Alkohol's "Vobblanker" (171 pages) and - the page is too wide for all the print to be shown on my printer. I even had it in "Landscape" - still can't fit it in. It's just the way things are going! I down loaded "VoBBlanker", "ingburn" etc. and have just partial info on how to use it It's the way it is... Thanks anyway ronnies

Hey ronnies
No problemo on the help :) Anytime.

Hmmm I use Firefox and using portrait and shrink to fit had 29 pages.
If not using Firefox as your browser I highly recommend it.

Here's another guide on VobBlanker that may help too:

How'd you make out on The Notorious Bettie Page?

Hello Binkie7: Binky7, you simply know what your talking about - no bloviating. I took your advice and defraged my computer, let it cool down and ran "The Notorious Betty Page" through The latest DVDFab and then through DVD Shrink AND I was successful. Your help and guidance is highly valued by me
I found the "Vobblanker" guide ( the one from "Digital Digest") much simpler that the looong one that I could'nt fit on paper. I will give this some good thought. Do you feel that "Vobblanker" etc. is any better that the "Ripit4me" route?
Thanks again Binky7 for your excellant help and fortitude in my "backup" dilemma.
This weekend I will be going to Wildwood N.J. to compete in Barbershop singing competition, something else that I do - take care

Hi ronnies
You're welcome
Glad to hear you were successful! (decent movie started watching it tonite).

Do the disc cleanup and defrag weekly. Along w/ virus & spyware scans. Helps to keep the pc running smooth.

Either program is good - they each do the job. (& free too). I use them both & also use AnyDVD w/ Shrink, Recode or CloneDVD. I like to have options :)

Good luck at the competition!
