Problem with svchost.exe when connected with usb modem along with lan

First I would to mention that this forum is the most reliable and the most accurate (taking into account that this is the only forum that helped me with my pc when others could not).I had to say that first..
So I live in a student house and we have made a small network (using a router for lan games etc).Fine up to here.Every guy in this house has its own broadband connection through a usb modem.Here is where the problem starts.When I switch on the pc (running winxp pro sp2)using initially the lan, everything is fine.But when I am connecting with the modem (have the lan also connected) after a while I get an error message :
the exception unknown software exceptionoccuredin the applicationat location...
and
another window named Generic Host proccess for win32 application.

The error report includes svchost.exe.mdmp.

After this error message every connection is dead!!

Does anyone have an idea of what is going wrong?
