I have a really annoying problem, DVD Shrink wont let me backup. It analysises it fine to start with but as soon as I hit backup shrink just closes down. I have downloaded it about four times now and each time it does the same thing!!! My knowledge is extremely limited about computers so any ideas of how to fix this would be most welcome.
Check/update your DirectX.
Disable or set to no acceleration the Intel application accelerator if you use that.
These are easy checks to do so you should do those first.
sarah29 What version of Nero do you have. Some do not get along with DVD Shrink and it closes when you hit backup. Give us just a little more info so we can help you.....
Here's the deal Sarah,
DVD Shrink can call up a burning program when this feature is enabled. When you select Backup!, Shrink will process the video and then when that is completed, the burning program is opened automatically by Shrink.
By default, Shrink is set to use Nero to burn with. If Shrink is calling up Nero, and there is something wrong with Nero, you will get a program crash.
Some Nero OEMs will not work. Many of these OEM versions lack the DVD-Video plug-in, which is sold seperately.
Try this as a test.
Open Shrink.
Select Edit > Preferences.
Click the File I/O tab.
Uncheck the "Enable burning with Nero" box.
Click OK.
Now try your DVD again.
Shrink will not be able to call up Nero now so you may need a different burning program.
I recommend a free excellent program called ImgBurn.

There is a version of Shrink that can call ImgBurn automatically.
I have it at my website so you can download it if you like:
With this version, you have to tell it to open ImgBurn. You do this after you select Backup!. The Backup DVD menu opens.
This is another tabbed menu. The first tab is the Target Device tab. Click the arrow on the "Select backup target" drop-down menu.
From the list, select ISO Image File and burn with ImgBurn.
Make sure you have a blank DVD in your burner.
Select the Burn Settings tab and select a burn speed no faster than 1/2 the blank DVD's rated speed.
All you do now is select OK, the menu will close, Shrink will encode for a few minutes and then open ImgBurn to complete the copy process.
