I'm trying to rip the first Back to the Future and have had nothing but failure for the past 3 hours. I'm running windows xp with sp2 with a 2.7 GHz Intel P4 1gb of ddr memory. I have tried everything I can think of. Shrink can't analize it fully it gets to certant point and just stops, gives me and inccorect function error. Tried in clone dvd same thing. Tried riping it with the most current version of any dvd same thing. Tried Nero recoder same thing. I'v tried it on a different dvd drive on the same computer and get the same thing. Even tried riping it with any dvd turned off and it still does it. Yet when I go to physicaly watch the movie like normal I get to the part where all the programs that try to rip it and at the point and it plays totaly fine in all my dvd players with no problems.

It could be a dirty/scratched disc that is causingt he DVD reader in your computer to not be able to 'see' things right. Try gently cleaning it.

Sounds like my copy of The Empire Strikes Back that seems to be unrecordable, but I'm positive that's due to a bad pressing even though it works correctly.

OK, try DVDFabDecrypter that seems to be a good program for breaking through tough to read discs. It has read a couple disc for me that were baddly scratched.

If that works then you can just open the files into Shrink.

File mode in Decryptor is good for ripping tough discs too. VOBB, surprisingly, worked for me on a couple.

But you've pretty much done everything that you should. If no other alternatives works, just exchange it for another one.

Latest AnyDVD to rip > VOBB to blank the unwanted on a DVD > Shrink to compress > ImgBurn to burn = Never starting a thread asking how to backup a movie
