whats the best option in your home theater?
i have 7.1 surround... just wondering what you guys go for say for a movie or for an HDTV sports event.

For dvds, I check to see if there's a DTS soundtrack. If there is, I choose that. You won't get DTS from tv. The best you'll get is DD 5.1, and that's just from premium channels (HBO, Showtime, Starz, etc.), and HD channels. Other channels, you'll have to use ProLogic/ProLogic II.

It's all good! It's a lot better than the two speakers in the tv.....

As JVC has said, it has a lot to do with the quality of the source mateial you have to work with in the first place.

Also, don't discount the location and placement of your home theater setup either. The room acoustics must be considered. For example, dont place a two way rear channel speaker with a tuned port for LF on the back of the unit, right against the backwall or in the corner of the room.

A rear surround speaker with a woofer and a tweeter, may have an air port on the back of the cabinet. What was dexcribed was to never put the speaker right up against the wall, leave about a foot or so space for it to breath!!
