PSTwo (slim) heating issues?

Hello folks,

Here in Brazil there is already some kind of myth among users and even resellers that PSTwo does have heating issues due to the lack of case fan and because its compact size would not allow much airflow. The thing grew to an extent that it's possible to find external fans for the PSTwo that can be attached to the USB for power supply. It looks like this:




Has anyone ever seen something like this? Or is this just some kind of product that takes advantage of widespread misinformation?

If you play your Playstation 2 for many hours on end without switching it off then maybe an extra fan will reduce the increased wear and tear that you are putting your Playstation through.

Generally i recommend to all my customers to play the unit about and hour at a time and swith the unit off when not in use. As the laser has a limited life span. The PS2 is always reading a cd/dvd when on.

With constant use of the ps2 , the lasers tend to die between 1-2years.
For occasional use they can last up to about 3-4 years.

If you use bad or scratched media, the laser could die as early and 3-6months.

Thanks for your reply! Since I don`t find any coolers for PS2 in major online stores I thought the heating issue was some kind of myth. Do you think a cooler like the one on the pic above really makes any difference?

About the laser lifespan, I guess an USB HD would be a worthy acquisition, right? :)
