I've had success in making ghetto/homemade versions of all of the swap magic switch tools...except for tool #3/E. Unfortunately, as I have the newer version black slimline that has the metal block over the microswitch, this one is proving difficult ;). I would very much appreciate someone taking a photo of tool 3 up close and measuring the exact dimensions, or making a diagram of the area where tool 3 goes (aka "whats it look like under that blasted metal thing!"). As I have neither the tools themselves nor an open-box PSTwo, I can do neither. Once I get this, I'll post how to make all of the homemade versions here...thanks.

Brilliant!

I'm having the same problem...I think. I have a fairly new slimline. It has the little metal piece to the right of the hinge, which i think means that the standard straw-for-tool-C method won't work. Is this correct? If so, we're in the same situation and I'm definitely also interested in figuring out some sort of diy solution (without breaking the warranty seal.)

I think the point was missed...I'm trying to avoid unsealing my Ps2 and voiding my warantee at all costs...it was much to expensive to blow on something like this. The whole appeal of the Magic Keys is that the case does not have to be opened, and that's what I'm going for with my version.

Brilliant!

The point is that tool C will not work on our console versions. Sony put a big metal piece in the way. There is a commercially available solution out there to get around the piece, but it'd be so much cooler to diy it :).

That's exactly what you would need to do for older versions of the console. The problem is (unless I'm really missing something here) is that Sony realized that people were doing this and released a new version with a metal piece over the microswitch. There has been a solution released that gets around this metal piece, but we're looking for a diy way to do it without voiding the warranty.

I totally agree - homebrew is the way to go. The problem is that the straw method does not work for our versions. Sony realized that people were doing this and put a big metal piece in the way. We're trying to figure out a different way.

Yes, this could be considered a "new" homebrew method- the method on your link only works for old pstwos, without the metal block.

Anyway, I've just ordered a set of Magic Keys 2, once they come in I'm going to find out how to make the new tool E. Should be 3 days, tops.
