ok ive been using sm3.6 on my v13 slimline for about 10 months now with no problems. today i went to go fire up the ps2 and now none of my backups work. all my originals play fine and the sm disc boots fine as well. but when i put in a backup it tells me invalid ps2 disc. i'm using good media as i said ive never had a problem with my 30 something backup discs until today. ive cleaned the discs and lens but to no avail. i even tried some different brand discs but still no dice. my sm disc is a lil scratched from normal use but it loads with no problem. also if i boot the sm disc and then load an original ps2 game it still tells me invalid disc. i dunno what else to try. anyone else with the same problem found a solution?

Hi, I seem to have the same problem. 2 days ago I was able to boot all my games and today I tried to boot up a game to show my friend and it didn't work. I have the exact same problem you do. It would be nice to get this problem resolved. Weird.

Clean your laser with Alcohol if that dosent work then you need a new laser for the slim they are $90au.
One more thing before you clean open your ps2's cd cover and does the laser move into the centre or does it stay on the outside while the disc cover is open if it stays on the outside one of your tool's have moved out of place.

ive cleaned the laser very well. i dont see why i would need to replace the laser assembly b/c it reads my originals and the actual sm disc just fine.

can a sm disc be scratched and still boot correctly, but just not load a backed up game? cuz when i try to load a original ps2 disc after booting with sm it tells me invalid disc.

Yes but burnt discs are much harder to read and if your laser is dying it will read originals

A new laser will cost three-quarters of the price of a refurbished pre-owned PS2, so you'd be better off getting a 2nd hand PS2 in the long run.

Do not get a V12 laser they suck they go out quicker then any other ps2 laser I would recommend you getting a V14 laser as they ar much more durable
