I am having trouble backing up my movie GANGS OF NEW YORK. It sucks when they put it on 2 DVDs. I have joined vob before with no problems with GOODFELLAS. But I am falling very short for some reason. I use the method on the IFOEDIT site. Which would work ok, but when playing on DVD I would get chapter skips on the second part of the movie. I restreamed with IFOEDIT after creating new IFOs, and it solved that problem.
My main question is how to get rid of extra chapters that I am getting when using VOBEDIT? I tried heaven to hell, and can't get nowhere...
Appreciate any and all help...

Try it this way:

Rip both discs to two seperate folders. Open TMPGEnc DVD Author and select each DVD Video to add in the order they appear - 01.01.VOB, 01.02.VOB, etc. Add from both folders. Next click on begin output and then shrink with DVD Shrink or DVD2One.

It works for me!

Hi Oriphus, that way is new to me, and I can't get it going. Got TMPGEnc and it doesn't accept VOB, and this puppy is lost...

You got the wrong one. not TMPGEnc, but TMPGEnc DVD Author, they are different.

I can't seem to find TEMPGenc DVD AUTHOR... I did GOODFELLAS properly, but I notice the difference. Goodfellas had 4 VOB files on each side. Gangs of New York has 5 on each DVD. I basically have to compress each dvd to get it under 5, because my understanding is that you can only work with 9 VOB the most when dealing with IFOEdit. Suxs... Need help peoplez...

Well first off, Thank You Oriphus!!! You are a fountain of useful information...

I used TMPGEnc DVD Author, and I got a perfect backup of my movie GANGS OF NEW YORK...

It took quite a bit of work. Being that I only deal with the main movie, I had use IFOEdit on each set to strip unwanted audio, subtitles, and any Vobs. After that, I ran into a snag. I used TMPGEnc DVD Author to join them, and had about 7 VOB files (so I need to compress). I used IFOEdit again to strip away some menu that was created. Well, I use DVD2One and it couldn't compress, stating that it was not able to decrypt the data. Bad snag...

I simply compressed the folders before joining with TMPGEnc DVD Author, and that solved my problems...

FYI - to compress the to folders you must figure out the percentage of compression for each folder, otherwise you join them and it will end up too big for a DVD.

ie: GANGS OF NEW YORK -
folder 1 - 4477 mbytes
folder 2 - 4777 mbytes
Total size - 9254 mbytes
4477 / 9254 = 48%
4777 / 9254 = 52%

so now just get 48% of 4300 & 52% of 4300 and you have your compression levels for folder 1 & 2...

Thanks Oriphus

I could probably avoid all this just by uprading my DVD2One so I don't get decryption errors LOL
