I'm kind of new to this. I have sucessfully created backups however they tend to skip alot. I am currently using DVD Shrink and AnyDVD 6.0.8.0 (I believe they are running simultaneously) to scan and encode. I am using Nero Smart Start 2,1,0,5; Nero Burning ROM 6,6,1,4 and Nero Recode2 2,2,6,17. My Writer is an HP 740b DC24. I don't know what I'm doing wrong but I seem to get alot of errors when writing and when I'm sucessful they skip when I put them in a DVD Player but they play fine on my computer. I'm using Verbatim media High Speed 16x DVD. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Try lowering your burning speed to 8X.
Posting your log would also help.

Sometimes burning at max or too fast will cause the issues that you are experiencing. Cutting the burn speed as recommended by dialysis1 is an excellent recommendation.

Burning too close to the edge of the media can also cause playback issues as well. In shrinks preferences on the first tab click the target size and choose "custom" and type in 4300. This will keep you from burning too close to the edge of the media.

Paper labels can also cause the issue you describe. Are you putting labels on the discs?

I have a similar problem. I burn at 1/2 the max speed (4X) and use Maxelle DVD-R. When I replay i get serious pixilation and skipping. I use ripit4me, DVD shrink/Decrypter and DVD clone (V1.3.10.1)

@ raymo1969,

most likely it is the media u are using and the burn speed. if those Maxell are made in Taiwan, thats probably the reason for the pixilations, try Verbatims which are the only media made in Taiwan that are good, or any Media made in Japan, this will solve ur problem.

I am using Verbatim media with a printable surface. No stick on paper lables. I tried using 8x and it still skipped. How do I post my log???? I already have Shrink on Custom 4300. Should I try erasing Shrink, Nero, any dvd and my drivers/info for my DVD Burner and start over from scratch in case I've got a glitch????

Spartan burning at 8x is way too fast in my opinion i think you should only be burning at 4x no matter what media you use and also you can leave the target size in shrink set to default i do it all the time with no issues whatsoever...I think all your problems are coming mainly from your super fast 8x burn speed...do only 4x..and try switching to sony media i use the 16x DVD+R made in tawian and i only burn at 4x with no playback problems whatsoever
