Hi
I dont know if I am asking this in the right place or if I am breaking any rules by doing so, if I am then I am sorry.
For my sons PS2 I had installed a hard drive and purchased a product called HD Loader. This allowed me to add all his games to the hard drive and store his originals somewhere safe (9 year old boys seem to think these discs are indestructible).
He only gets the originals out to play online now and otherwise plays his games off the hard drive. They also load a lot quicker off the hard drive. What I wanted to know is whether this is possible to do with his xbox?
I had been looking at soft modding his xbox and installing the Evolution dashboard. What other programs would allow me to copy games to a HDD to play them from? Would I be right in saying something like PX HDD Loader? I would be extremely grateful if someone could point me to some tutorials for soft modding, installing and using something like PX HDD Loader.
One last question, I am currently toying with the idea of buying him a pre modded xbox 360 (xtreme firmware) for christmas. Is this kind of thing possible with a 360 yet?
Thanks in advance for your help.

Thanks for the replies. After a little further reading I am assuming that Evox would allow me to store games to and play them from a HDD without extra software like PX HDD Loader, is this correct?
brownkid:
Thanks for this link, this was infact the one that I was looking to use. I have a few questions.
1. How do I know whether to use PAL or NTSC for the Splinter Cell Game and the options at the end?
2. If I installed a new HDD after this would the eject still startup the ms dashboard?
3. Would this setup allow me to install and play games from the HDD?
4. Would the classic versions of the games work (I mean splintercell, 007 and mechassault)?
PAN5Y:
Would the xtreme firmware mod allow me to add games to a HDD to play? Do you know of any tutorials for doing this?
Thanks again.

1. How do I know whether to use PAL or NTSC for the Splinter Cell Game and the options at the end?
PAL is UK
NTSC is for United States
(if u dont live in one of these countries im sure someone can help you or you can google it)
2. If I installed a new HDD after this would the eject still startup the ms dashboard?
i am not completely sure about what you are saying right here... sry
3. Would this setup allow me to install and play games from the HDD?
I dont see why you couldnt and as far as i know you should be able to.
4. Would the classic versions of the games work (I mean splintercell, 007 and mechassault)? yes, infact you need the originals...if you go out and buy the greatest hits version then it will not work...make sure you have the originals/clasics (normal non greatest hits copy)

Thanks again for the reply.
What I meant in question 2 was:
I want to install a 200GB hard drive in the xbox to replace the standard one. I want all the functionality that the soft mod seems to give (e.g. allowing dual booting with the MS dashboard) but on a larger hard drive. How can I do this?
Should I install the new HDD first and then soft mod or soft mod first before installing the new HDD? Do you know of any tutorials that would help me with this?

Hi,
Unfortunately I have been unable to find a copy of one of the games needed. Been looking on ebay and in the preowned bins at my local stores but so far nothing. Going to have another look on ebay today.
I'll post back when done to let you know how it went.
Thanks for all your help.

my suddgestion is go to ebgames.com and search splintercell and have them deliver it to you...they have like 3 in everystore and they will just take one out of the store and diliver it to your house...it should only cost you about 5 bucks for the game and about another like 8 for delivery...(not 100% sure on delivery price...i bought my copy in a store)

Since you're having a hard time finding the games, you might want to just get a mod chip instead.
At least that way, if your son decides to mess with dashboard settings on the soft mod you'll have an easier time fixing it in the offchance that he somehow formats the hard drive or ruins the soft mod.

Thanks but I dont really fancy any soldering so it would have had to be a solderless solution (dont know if they are any good?). Anyway, I found a pre owned Splinter Cell in a game store for £4, just need to pick up an action replay now.
Are there any different types of AR? If so, will any of them do? Any suggestions?
Thanks again for all your help.
