How do I converting DVD (vob) to uncompressed AVI?

I?m trying to rip short clips, each lasting only a few minutes, from DVD and to convert them into high quality source material for use in other video editing applications. Ultimately the clips will be re-encoded to smaller files suitable for the web ? most likely QuickTime.

As the DVD disc is the best quality source material I can obtain, I don?t want to have to compress it to a lossy format such as DivX or MPEG, only to then re-compress it for the web. The quality just degrades rapidly by the time it?s reached the third stage of compression.

Can I convert the DVD to an uncompressed AVI? Is this going to give me the best quality? I?m only converting short clips, not whole movies, so I don?t mind the file size being huge. I?ve tried and tried, but so far have not had much luck. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
