Philips DVD+RW doesn't work when rewritten!

Hello,

For my DVD Recorder I use some Philips DVD+RW disks which I dub programmes from the Hard Drive to the DVD. When dubbed onto a new disk the disk works in other DVD players. Although being a rewritable disk I format the DVD with the DVD recorder and then do the same of dubbing video onto the disk. This time however when the disk is played in another DVD player it either says the disk is dirty or the picture is really bad. Now really having to keep buying new rewritables all the time doesn't really make use of being rewritable. The DVD Recorder is a Sony one by the way.

Hmm Philips aren't really the best make of media you can get; try Verbatim, Sony or Taiyo Yuden. Also...

is a bit vague, what drive exactly? Another thing to try is cleaning the lasers in both your dvd drive and dvd player with a cotton bud and a little rubbing alcohol.

May need a firmware update for recorder to be more compatible with various disks. Some brands may not work as well as others. Try another brand and don't burn at max rated speed on the disk.
I had a TDK burner that would not rewrite to TDK -RW disks. Go figure.
