I installed a DMS4 SE chip and burnt the laser. I replaced the laser and have the laser fix installed. The psII will boot fine and then shut off after a few minutes. I then can't reboot for a while. The mod chip seems to work fine and the install looks pretty good. I have the chip stuck to the motherboard with double sided tape which is very thin. What else could be wrong.

The ps2 is designed to shut down when it gets too hot and from what you described that's what it looks like is happening. Just to confirm, try having a fan pointing at the system while you play, if that fixes the problem then you know what's wrong. Once you have confirmed that's the problem a few things you could try to remidy it is stand the ps2 up vertically or move the mod to a different location. Worse come to worse you can just leave a fan pointing at the ps2 while you play it.

The fan idea doesn't have any effect. The ps2 is not on long enough to even load in a game all the way to start playing. I have tried backups and originals. Sometimes the ps2 just freezes othe time its shuts off.
any othe ideas, I need help with this one,

Update.... If I put the ps2 on its side (verticle) it works no problem but horzontal it crashes. Even if there is plenty of air circ around the ps2 ( I put it on two small but high pedistals) what gives????

Still having some problems with it vertical. I don't think its heat because it crashes sometimes in minutes (4-5) barley enough time to even get warm you would think. I am gonna try reflashing the chip.

i would suguest that you contact the seller and send the console back for a repair, i'm sure the seller can arrange something.

v12 has the laser burnout problem, v14 has this problem fixed so the laser fix is no longer needed. my ps2 doesn't have this fitted and it's been fine so far.

I have experienced the exact same problem before. It was the laser fix.
Mine was a Neo-??? laser fix.
It worked fine after I removed it.
v14 does not need any laser fix. If you really need one, get a better one.

I removed the laser fix and the ps2 has run for over an hour so far. The only thing is that the dvd drive makes lots of noise. The kind of sound that is normal when its trying to find stuff on a disc. You know kind of like searching. ( I hope I don't have you confused here) Anywayzzz...... If I disable the chip and play, the searching noise goes away. The last time I heard this coming from the ps2 My laser was fried the next morning.
The game is James Bond and it might be normal but It also makes the same sounds with NHL2007.
I really don't want to blow another laser. This mod chip is starting to cost way more than I will get out of it already but I am too subborn to take it out.
Any Ideas.
BTW thanks for all the replies so far.

I am using Sony DVD-R. But the games freeze even if they are original. I removed the mod chip and everything seems to work fine now. It must be a faulty chip. All the wires are still soldered on the board. I just unsoldered and taped them on the chip side. I think I am going to go with a crystal chip. Anything I should be aware of with the crystal chips?
Thanks again for the help guys.....

I know this problem, your chip is poorly installed. Open up the PS2 and make sure all connections are nicely placed and soldiered. If this doesnt fix the problem, it may be a faulty chip.

As far as the install is concerned, It's the neatest job I ever did. 100% sure that the install is clean and no bridges. Wires neat etc. I am leaning on the chip being faulty. I will probably get a Matrix or Crystal i think.

ur dvd drive has problems because the lens circuit is missing the resistance from the laser fix.
i have had this problem of dvd not booting after removing it. i was going to give up , until i tried installing the same faulty laser fix(which still boots but locks up after 2hours) to boot up the dvd. after that, i removed it. if u have any other way to reset the circuit to its original state, by all means do it. sorry i forgot all the technical terms, all these are my own explanation.
Edit: I missed ur later post regarding disabling the mod chip, well the above was what i experienced, hope it helps u.
