Hello everyone
Can anyone please give me some advise on the following DVD ROM
XBOX 360 Backup DVD ROM - Samsung SH-D162C
If I purchase this drive and installed it to my PC. I assume I use this drive to extract the files from an original XBOX 360 disc as an image file and then burn it on to a dual-layer DVD+R using any sort of DVD/DL writer and appropriate software / programs.
Please correct me if I am wrong.
Once the game is backed up, can I play this back up game on my XBOX 360 just like an original? Or do I still need to upgrade the firmware of my XBOX 360 drive for it to read the disc?
Many thanks

You still need to flash the 360's drive firmware.
If you have a Hitachi 0078FK drive then you'll have to wait because there is no firmware flash for this drive yet.
These were manufactured July/August mainly in UK/Australia.

you will still have to open up the case to flash the 360's firmware. first you will need to buy a PCI card to hook the DVD drive up to your PC. preferably this one:
SYBA SY-VIA-150 PCI SATA /IDE Combo Controller Card, Non Raid
got mine from newegg.com
item number from there was:
N82E16815124022
once that arrives, just put it in like a normal pci card. and the next few steps i can not tell you, because i have not flashed mine yet, going to do it this following week when i get back to school and have a little bit of time, but getting that pci card is the first step.

After you've installed the drive you have to flash it with Kreon's firmware.
To read 360 discs you have to use either Xbox Backup Creator or use Schtrom 3.1 this will make an image of the game.
Then burn with Clone CD on a DVD+R DL disc.
I've used Verbatim and Imation discs, had a coaster with a TDK.

Verbatim are by far the best, they seem to burn the fastest aswell.
Haven't had a coaster with them yet.
I forgot to ask if your Xbox 360 has been flashed, you need to do this to play backups.
