Hi waterwich
May need a firmware update for your drive. Sounds like your drive isn't recognizing it.
Does the drive support both the + and - formats? Most newer ones do.
You can check the drives manufacturers site or here and see if there is a later version - just need the make and model.
http://forum.rpc1.org/dl_search.php
What media are you using - maybe another part of the problem.
Ones to use Verbatim or made in Japan Sony, Fuji or Maxell.
Glad to hear that aD has been able to help you!

16x disc? When they first came out not many drives read them properly. Like Binkie said, updating the firmware takes care of that.
*edit* What media are you using then?

Might make a diff. What's the rated speed of the discs?
How about the make and model of the drive?

I WANT TO CRY! I have spent my WHOLE Saturday, trying to figure this
out.
I have used Shrink for over 50 movies. Now, all of a sudden it
doesn't work.
I have tried EVERY single program. AnyDVD,DVDFabDec,I have bought
dvdclone, in which after $40, I still can't get this to work.
I have used these same dvd's before, but now.. nope, not working.
I just don't get it!
I have installed, uninstalled, booted, rebooted....
In basic layman's terms... what should I use to burn dvd's.
(We go camping alot, and I hate ruining my originals.)
Thank you for taking the time to help me!

No problemo waterwich :)
Ok let's see what we can do here.
I'm guessing since you use Shrink you might be burning w/ Nero. Shrink doesn't have a burn engine uses Nero for one.
So let's check for the last log if you have Nero in the text log. Just be sure to edit out the serial # - usually begin w/ 1A,1C or 5C.
You can find them here:
Nero 6 - program files>ahead>nero>nerohistory
Nero 7 - program files>nero>nero 7>core>nerohistory
The log can give us some useful information.
If you don't have Nero - then let's start with the make & model of the drive and the rated speed of the Sony media you are using.

Good news, and Of course BAD!
I switched dvdburners from my old one, and now with DVDfab decrypt,
it is working great. (for the moment)
Bad news, now it will not boot properly and makes me hit F1 to
continue. I think it has something to do with jumpers and
set up. I had posted in another thread about this. I got a
great link about it, just had a few more questions, before
I switch again.
Would you think I'm nuts if I said that my screen doesn't refresh
on it's own?

Ok when you put the other drive in the jumper pin on the back should match the placement on the ide cable - ie master connection>jumper pin set to master.
Unless it's a Dell pc which prefers cable select.
Make sure the ide cable is securely set in the motherboard and to the drive. Power connector to drive should be secure too.

YEP, it's a dell. Should both dvd drives be on CS?
(Blinky thank you so much for your help!!)
One last question. When you say attached to the motherboard,
where exactly should it attach at?

No problemo waterwich :)
Glad to hear all your effort paid off and you are back in business.
Oh & the motherboard has ports in it for the drive connections - you could just follow the cable to it and just make sure in securely.

@binkie7
You beat me again. I just asked her if her pc was a Dell in her other thread and suggested cable select. Darn it. Glad she got it sorted. :)

I am using Sony DVD+R. Some movies are fine with it, and some
wouldn't burn..
Any ideas?
Thanks!!

I'm thinking waterwich it's the discs and or burner can't handle them.
What's the rated speed on them?
How about the make & model of the drive?

I'm not sure what the specs are of the DVD's, but this is what they say on top.
Sony DVD+R 120 Min /4.7 VER. 1.3/1x-16x

Okay - 16x may be part of the problem w/ an older drive. They can be hit or miss depending on when the last firmware update was and what media codes it was for and if any 16x media was even included.
You would probably be better off w/ 8x or lower media.
Let's check the drive(s) too and what it supports. In Nero Smart Start go to ToolKit>InfoTool. The drive/burner will be listed in the drop down and will give you the make and model. On the drive tab there is a field for the firmware version.
Post back the make, model and firmware version and we can go from there.

Hi JenNJoose
Is this a Sony or Dell laptop? The firmware version for the burner would be listed on the drive tab in Info Tool. What you listed is the version of Nero.
How about the media you using are? Like Sony +R 16x?
