The original cd-rom drive is not visable in my computer. The CDROM drive itself lights up when I put a cd in, but it will not reconize it on the computer. I need help please.

Might be a bad burner, especially if it stopped working all of a sudden. Obviously it gets power, but it's not connected to the computer itself.

If you have Windows XP, try opening your computer and unplugging both the power and IDE cables from the drive. Start your machine and it will realize the burner is "gone" if it doesn't already. Shut down and then plug both the power and IDE cable firmly into the burner. Make sure the IDE cable is also plugged firmly into the motherboard. The drive should also have a jumper on it but they don't usually fall out so I don't think that's the problem. Start your machine again and hopefully it'll recognize and "install" it for you.

-Do you believe you own your computer and shouldn't be told what you can run and do? Then say *NO* to Microsoft Vista!
-Since half the questions here involve media problems, here ya go: Only use Verbatim or Taiyo-Yuden discs (get your TYs from Rima.com, not Supermediastore or meritline). Forget the rest, no matter what "brand" they sell under. Always burn at 4x speed regardless of the speed rating of this discs or your drive. If you have burn problems with these then you have to update your drive's firmware. For double-layer discs, only use Verbatim DVD+R DL and burn them at 2.4x speed.

Ok what I finally did was. I had to reset the bios and I was then able to back up all my files on an external hard drive and then reformatt the whole hdd. Everything is back to normal. Norton is definatley going on there asap. Thanks again!

No no no! Not Norton! Unless you just renewed your subscription, use anything else! Comodo is the best firewall available (free) and use AVG or Avira Antivir (free for personal use) for the anti-virus, and Ad-Aware+SpyBot (free) for antispyware. STAY AWAY FROM SYMANTEC PRODUCTS!!!

If you just reformatted and already installed Norton's, consider reformatting again before you've put too much time into this and not using Norton's this time. You will have a better, faster, more stable system if you start fresh without Norton.
