Pinnacle 9 initialzation error when capturing

I have been using Pinnacle 9 for 2 years to burn DVD -R's from DV camcorder recordings, no problem for 2 years. Suddenly when I capture I now get initialzation errors saying the camera isn't recognized or connected correctly or turned or or whatever. But I'm not doing anything any differently than before. Then I do all sorts of chinnanigans--turn the camera off and on, alter the order in which I turn this on and off, and suddenly I am able to capture--no idea why. Then for a few frustrating days initialzation errors again, then suddenly able to capture no problem for a week, then more errors. I have changed cameras and cables, no difference. Although I;ve been doing this for 2 years I am quite a novice with technology--I just know how to capture and render/burn the DVD-R's for things I need for my university and once something goes wrong I have no clue what to do....Please help. thanks
