I have a few questions. I am somewhat new to this topic and I haven't been able to find any decent guides that answer my questions. First off, I use GBPVR with a Hauppage 150 for my digital video recorder, to record off of cable TV. It records in mpg format. However, when I play back these videos through GBPVR, I experience loss of quality, edge blurriness, loss of detail, and loss of black contrast when all of this is compared to the signal that is viewed on my TV. I have noticed this and have gotten opinions from other people on other forums with no luck. What resurrected this topic for me was my viewing of Smallville this week. I do not receive the WB network in my area, Michigan, USA, so I must download episodes via bit torrent. I downloaded this AVI file this week and noticed it is 1/6 or 1/7 the size of the mpg recordings I make and has vastly superior image quality. Why is this? Is it my capture device? Could it be my media player? I am at a loss. I have a friend that has a somewhat new TIVO. His files are a fraction of the size my GBPVR files are. His image quality is vastly superior as well. Can anyone explain this to me?
