I've been researching and I've been messing around with verbatim DVD-R backups for over a year now. I back them up using Nero at 4x speed. They work when they boot, but they don't boot all the time. My pS2 makes a clicking sound 50 percent of the time (when using verbatim DVD-R.
However, when I use fuji-film DVD+R, they read 100 percent of the time (no clicking noise) and smooth and everything. So my question is...is it possible that my laser prefers DVD+R more? Are they safe to use? How good are the sony dvd+rs? They're on sale this week at best buy. Thanks!

fujifilm are actually good quality media.if DVD+R work then its okay.different ps2's prefer different kinds of dvds so keep using them.with verbatim, maybe you should burn using DVD Decrypter instead.as for sony, get sony with accucore.

Sony with accucore did not work. I get the same clicking read problems. Fuji works flawlessly. Some guy told me that DVD+R will strain my laser more vs the DVD-R, but the laser sounds very healthy when reading the FUJIfilm DVD+R. So...what are your thoughts to laser strain? I'm ask because I'm about to call it a day and buy a fuji-film 50 pack. Thanks.

is anyone else using +R media for their backups?
I have a whole bunch of HP DVD+R 8x.
If they are worse for the laser, then I don't want to use them.
Think though, the laser thingy might just have to do with the quality of the burn. I had a friend that GT4 would be the only game that he would get DRE's on (store bought version, of course). Everything else worked fine, just GT4 would do that (various copies of it, he bought like 3 or 4 used ones). So, I concluded that the GT4 disks weren't burnt as well as the others, thus the laser starts pooping out when it reads it.
Which brings us to -r & +r media, since they are made different, does it really matter?
Since I just have some +r's, and i already have Nurato burnt to one (uses Alcohol 120% wizard to burn it, hope it was correct.
And i just got some mc's, i'm going to give it a try.
Just like to know if this has already been checked by someone, and found that +R's weren't any good.

I have been having no problems using the HP DVD+R, according to Nero infotool, they are: CMC Mag E01
which, if i recall correctly, are just mid range in turns of dependability.
But hey, they are working.
If i boot stuff up using cdloader, they boot up fast, if i used cogswap, they don't boot up as fast, but not slower then an original ps2 disk. (not counting the crap i got to do to get it to play).
I think the stuttering i had was because of the boot disk i was using.
