I recently backed up a DVD that was double- layered onto a DVD-R by taking out extras and language streams. Everything works perfectly except for one little thing. There is one part towards the end of the movie where the movie stops and then starts over from the beginning. I have my own theories, but might anyone know why this may have occurred?

Side Note:
This is not the case in this situation, but if the original DVD does this stopping thing and I make a backup of it, will the backup stop at that spot too? Thanks

Rotary, why does it have to? Is it a scratch on the DVD that causes the stop or a corrupt file? Would a scratch cause a file to change? Also, I did not cut credits, and I'm not even sure what it meaning for the ifo to be running a loop.

Herbsman, I used DVD Decrypter to rip. I used IFOEdit to cut the movie down (took out foreign streams, extras, etc.) leaving what I wanted (movied, menus, scene selection, english subtitle). Used MenuEdit to delete buttons. Used Nero to burn.

The thing is I have not had the problem again. I have only watched the movie one time all the way through. I have went back to before the stop came and watched from there on a different DVD player (same model though), No Stop? Can't figure it. There was no power outage or anything. ?

Check out my signature - thats a Pixie for sure, dam little buggers.......

The disc that you made (ie the backup), you said works OK in another player (same model)

When you tried it on the other machine did you jump to that part or play the ENTIRE movie?

Was it right at the end, or lets say the last 10-15mins of it?

Could just be an iffy burn - or your player does not like it the outer circumference of the disc...

Try copying THE BACKUP and see if it still happens......The Pixies love doing this sort of thing......I will find you and then am gonna pull your ears off.....LOL

MenuEdit can delete buttons or VOB ID's. I just use it for deleting buttons I don't need after I have stripped content. It is soooo much easy than trying to do it with IFOEdit.

The problem occurred after playing the movie all the way through. It occurred about 15-20 minutes from the end (about 3-4 scenes from the end, 28 scenes in all).

? I would like to know the answer to.
If an original DVD does this stopping thing because of a scratch on the disk and I make a backup of it, will the backup stop at that spot too? If it does, why? Are the files affected somehow?

You've nearly answered it yourself actually..

You said you played it in another player - same model and it was OK

So it has to be down to your player....

Either misreading laser, TOO much error correction going on - as the outside of the disc ROTATES quicker than the inside....

This is my opinion anyway - try burning it to another brand and see if it happens again...

If an original stops at this point - then ANY bad areas will be transferred to the hd - IT WILL NOT GET FIXED - how can it get fixed?

If the bad spot is not on the disc - but appears AFTER burning then it will probably be a standalone/media issue or even JUST a bad burn..

Re-burn it, see if it happens again...

Burn at X1 aswell...

What media is being used ?

Why IFOEdit in the procedure (when everyone on Afterdawn uses DVD2One or DVD Shrink, which gives excellent results) ??
IFOedit hasn't been updated for soO0o long , version 0.95 has been about for many moons & the writer of the proggie is busy on other projects so I wouldnt imagine that the bugs that are in IfoEdit0.95 will be ironed out anytime soon
(There was a bit of a problem splitting to 2 disks I seem to remember , which some ppl do want to do - 1:1 copy)

Rant over !!!: )

Can DVD2One and DVD Shrink keep the same quality, keep same menus, and fit on one DVD-R? Most DVD originals are on 2-layer disks, twice as much info than will fit on one DVD-R. But I am sure you know this.
