PC Tools Reg Mechanic's alot better than CCleaner's reg scanner. CCleaner's has been known to delete legit registry strings, so its recommended you not use the "issues" tab unless your an expert..apparently.
Its NEVER done anything like that to me, nor anyone else I know who has it installed, still, Reg Mechanic is pretty much the best you can get.
CCleaner = Junk file remover, for those who are too lazy to clean up windows themselves (using search > temp**)
Reg Mechanic = Reg integrity scanner.
For me it stays that way, don't trust ccleaner anymore.

@mackdl,
The difference between this one and the one you linked us to is, the one you linked us to is a trial of this one (full version).. ;-)

5. Congratulations, the registration process is now complete and you will now be
returned to the free registered version of the Registry Mechanic.
this is part of the email... you do not get updates and whatnot...
so whatever... its like a trojan horse in a way, cause once u like the program enough i would imagine they would expect you to buy their program...

i see nothing about a "free version" on mine. it is the full version--all they're doing is giving away a license, probably a one-year license or something. it's a pretty good marketing move, as more people are likely to buy a renewal when they've seen how good it is for a while.
this is ultra-convenient for me, as my cracked version ran out just a few weeks ago. ^.^
*edit*
and yes, you do get updates. look at the information window...it's registered to VNU networks. it is the full version.

check the email they sent you and read just below step 5 in the instructions/... would they use this to add my email to some mailing list for their product or other products?

product updates is a refernce to version number. just like to go from Nero 6 to 7, you couldn't just update; you had to pay for the new version. you still get definition updates and whatnot.
they're not going to hook you up for spam.
