I am in the process of purchasing a modchip for my v9 PS2. From what I have read, the Matrix Infinity seems like the accepted best PS2 mod chip available, but it also seems fairly expensive. So right now, I am between the Matrix Infinity and a cheaper modchip, such as the Magic V Plus/Duo3/Apollo 7. I was wondering what type of thoughts the more knowledgeable public had on these few modchips.

Also, I've read about a Romeo Mod, which from my understanding, has something to do with preserving the laser by limiting the voltage that runs through certain coils. I was curious if this Romeo Mod is absolutely necessary for all modded v9 PS2s, or if modchips such as the Duo3, which has runs on 3.3v, can be installed without the Romeo Mod, and still have my PS2 run smoothly for many more years to come.

Any help and comments are much appreciated, thank you

romeo mod is the laser fix for the slim ps2 v12 and v13 I believe (not 100% sure of v13 but, v12 for sure) as these had problems with the lasers on them burning (even without mods installed) so, you don't have to worry about that. Look into the features of the matrix and if you're not going to use them and only need a mod to boot backups then I'd say go for the duo or magic V as they are both pretty solid cheaper mods (haven't heard of the apollo and don't know what it is)
