hi my computer is acting up.my video doesn't work properly on my games anymore,my computer is way slower then way back when i bought it.so i guess reformatting the computer is the best solution right?well i have a couple of questions:
1.will a burned version of windows xp service pack 2 cd-rom work when reformatting?
2.i have avrack(from my sound card)will i have to reinstall that too(because i dont know how)?
3.will i have to reinstall everything that came with my computer already installed?
4.will i need to reinstall internet explorer somehow?

THANKS IN ADVANCE!

Do you have a Windows Installation Cd? If you do not it may be possible to make one if your cd burner is working. you need to copy the folder 'i386' to a cd which should be in c:\i386. it is usually several hundred megabytes and if you have installed SP2 you will need this on a cd or a slipstreamed Windows Installation disc with Sp2. you could also try nlite os http://www.nliteos.com which is useful for removing programs or an unattended install

Using a slipstreamed XP SP2 CD is the best way to go.

2.i have avrack(from my sound card)will i have to reinstall that too(because i dont know how)?

Yes. (see below)

3.will i have to reinstall everything that came with my computer already installed?

Not exactly. If you use a genuine XP CD, you'll only be installing the OS and it's own features.

4.will i need to reinstall internet explorer somehow?

IE 6 will be installed with XP. IE7 has been released by Yahoo, and will be released by MS sometime today. It will install over IE 6.

Install in this order:

Windows XP SP2
Motherboard drivers (chipset)
Video card drivers
Sound card drivers
Firewall
Windows updates (currently around 50 or so)
all other software....

Ok, first of all...let's steer you away from using a pirated key. They work, but they cause more problems then worth dealing with.

Any shop that installs XP should have given you a copy. You paid to use it, so you have a right to own a copy.

Second, in order to know what drivers you need, you need to know the make/model of the hardware you have. Every manufacturer of said hardware carries drivers for their products...as does the creators of the drivers themselves. In other words, if you have an Nvidia video card, you can get the drivers from the manufacturer of the card such as XFX or BFG Tech, and from the Nvidia site.

If you have done any updates from Microsoft and passed the genuine advantage check with the key that was used to install XP....use a program like WinKey Finder to retrieve the key from the registry. Then use that key to install XP fresh.
