Is there anyway that I can set the hard drive up in my PS2 without the HDloader or HDadvance? Is there anywhere to download it? Or a tutorial on how to build a copy. Please someone reply soon.

Yes there is.
there will be a lot of work though.
First you go to http://www.exploitstation.com/
go to download page and download the independence compiler 3.
then go to elf library then download the hdloader elf file.
Then follow this step
(quote from lawcase)
"unzip the elf file and save it to where ever you can remember it's loaction.

open up Independance Compiler. follow the below instructions and DO NOT change any settings or click any buttons that your not directed to do or it wont work.

click the 'close this window' button near the bottom right.

click on the 'Title.db' tab

put a PS1 game into your CD drive and select that drive in the title.db windown.

click on the 'get id from cd' and it should pop up in the window above.

if it does click 'add to title.db'

if it does not come up (most of the time it should) then open that drive with your windows explorer and find the SCUS or SLUS file and single click that file, on the left side of windows explorer you should then see information about the file, and it will have the code as SCUS_xxx.xx or SLUS_xxx.xx the _ may be a - but most often not. write this id exactly as it is here into the space in Independance Compiler where it says 'Enter ID Here', then click add.

now select the 'Files' tab. and click on 'browse for file' and select the hddlfpp.elf file (where ever you put it at when you unzipped it) then click Add.

now click the 'Creat Exploit' tab,

click 'creat exploit' button at the bottom.

wait till it's done, it will say the exploit has been completed and the file is located at C:\iscentral\

open your burn software and burn that ISO file to a CD

make sure your memory card is in the first slot of the PS2 (the left port or bottom port, depending on the orentation you have your PS2 sitting)

use your swap magic to boot the CD-R disk you just burnt as if it were a PS2 game, you should see the PS2 splash screen then the screen will go black and then text pops up saying 'installing exploit' then copying file 'XXXXXXX'

leave it alone till it says 'complete'

eject the exploit disk.

if your ps1 game is an original, put it in and boot.
"
once you boot your ps1 original cd in and memory card with system file menu in it in card slot 1 will trigger the HDLoader.
From there you can start install your games in your hard drive.

After you're done, say that you have your game in your PC hard drive (not your ps2 hard drive) you can use winhiip to install game from either back up dvd or image you download from internet.

I did all this easily so if you have any question, don't hesitate to ask me.
P.S: You really owe me big with this :D

Wow! I hope I am able to do this. Will a downloaded copy of swap magic work for me? Also does it have to be DVDR or can a dvdrw work to burn the file to or will a cdr work? Sorry for all the questions but I am totally new to this and I have been searching for 2 days.

if your ps2 is not modded with chip, copied swap magic won't work.
eventhough you do have a modded chip, I beleive 100% that your swap magic is for cd swap, not dvd swap.
as for your second question, i don't really get what you meant. what data you wanna burn??

Oh. the exploiter.
basically it requires cd-r only. it's a very fast procedure. won't take you more than 1 hour (unless your burnerr sucks :D)

When I open the Independence program it gives me a error about a comdlg32.ocx that it may be outdated and to make I am using the version of the control that was provided with your application. Do you have any idea what to do?

i tried Nero and Alcohol 120. and both of them were on options that could read all image files. The only image file it could read was the CUE file.

I used Nero and it works fine though. make sure you change the file read type. ISO is not the default image being read by the Nero
