I've installed a modchip in my PS2 (Magic 3.1 in a SCPH-39001, v7), but I'm having what seems to be an overheating problem now.
First off, the system gets power. The power switch, fan, reset button, and eject button all work normally, and the disc spins. When the system is booted, the TV flickers twice and does nothing.
Now, I've noticed that if I power off the system for a long enough time (two hours is usually enough), I can turn it on and it WILL work pretty much exactly how it should until it shuts off. It boots PS2 originals, and I also know it boots PS2 DVD-R backups, so the chip is working. I played a game for nearly an hour without experiencing a crash or anything out of the ordinary. When it does work, however, there are occasional black horizontal flickers on the screen that were not there before the installation. Once I turn it off, it refuses to boot again for some time.
This ONLY works on the first attempt, it seems, so if I try to turn it on and it doesn't go, any subsequent tries will also fail until the system has been left powered off for a few hours.
I haven't had the time to open it up again since the installation, but is this an accurate description of a known problem?
It's been a week and a half, and now the system won't display no matter how long I leave it. I opened it up and the soldering was fine, and even with the chip removed the system still doesn't work. I think it's something with the A/V connections.
