I have been looking to get a dvd recorder,and came across this site called (refurbDepot.com) has anyone had any dealings with this outfit and how are they.Would like any input on this thread.

-Do you believe you own your computer and shouldn't be told what you can run and do? Then say *NO* to Microsoft Vista!
-Since half the questions here involve media problems, here ya go: Only use Verbatim or Taiyo-Yuden discs (get your TYs from Rima.com, not Supermediastore or meritline). Forget the rest, no matter what "brand" they sell under. Always burn at 4x speed regardless of the speed rating of this discs or your drive. If you have burn problems with these then you have to update your drive's firmware. For double-layer discs, only use Verbatim DVD+R DL and burn them at 2.4x speed.

@Dunker, Well I looked at your sites and then went to best by to check on the models I looked at on the sites, It is between A Samsung R145dvdor ,or Panasonic es25s dvd. Now the one thing that scared the Hell out of me was,the salesman told me I had to recored to DVD-Ram disk, I looked at supper media and man them dvdRam's are high. Do I have to record with them or can I use something else, Please help cause this puts a pinch in getting a dvd recorder.Let me know what other media I can use to recored with.

Take a look at the specs for these machines. Both are + or - R/RW DVD recorders that are supposed to do a - RAM --[They are on the web]
The salesperson was wrong or you may have misunderstood

I took a quick look a videohelp.com's database (it's ont he left side under "DVD Recorders". The specs for both say they support DVD+R for permanent recording, and +RW for reusable discs, as well as DVD-RAM. The Panasonic can also do -R formats. Look under the "buy" link at individual retains and you may find user reviews. VH has a few reviews for the Panasonic at their site. Both have very good specs. Personally, if I were buying a recorder now, I'd spend a little more and get one with a hard drive and DL capability, but those are a bit more expensive and I can understand spending less on one now.
My take on these recorders:
Samsung does't make good computer DVD writers, and their whole line of DVD-related stuff isn't the best, but it gives a good picture as far as I've seen. Many DVD recorder makers have a computer DVD writer as the heart of their machine, which is the only reason why I bring this up.
But...
I own a Panasonic DMR-E50 recorder, and the thing has been a nightmare. When I bought it, it had an EXCELLENT picture, phenomenal. It could actually take a bad broadcast and make it look better! But it was quirk and wouldn't work with half the DVD discs out there, so I upgraded the firmware. Although this fixed the incompatibility with discs, the picture if records is now awful. Less color than VHS even! Manufacturers often reuse firmware code, so make sure to try before you buy!
Pick your poison, but I recommend trying an in-store demo if it's at all possible.
One thing to keep in mind: I personally prefer to have a separate DVD player for playing, and to use the recorder just for recording. So, I don't look for DivX, HDMI, etc. in my recorder. The main advantages of this are 1. that this results in less wear-and-tear on the recorder, and 2. this leaves me more options when buying a recorder. A third advantage is that I can stick with my beloved Philips 5960 players that play just about everything, which I doubt the recorder will. THis is just food for thought, but I thought I'd let you know.

Two both youGuys,I thank you, I didn't understand the salesman,like you said, after looking at the specs I see what you are saying ,they record to + -,both. Well I will keep on looking, And when I get back from Florida maybe I will have a new one,even one with a HD, Thanks again guy's .
