Ritek Getting Worse?

For several months and writing to hundreds of unbranded Ritek DVD-R x4 discs I had 100% success. All discs played on all members of my family and friends standalones without a single problem. A few weeks ago however after opening a new batch of discs it turned out that freezing and pixelation occurs on some standalones and not others. I purchased another batch of Riteks from a different store at the weekend and tried these only to find poor results again.
Now either my Sony DRU-500AX is starting to wear down and create weak burns or Ritek are rushing out the discs on the production line to meet demand.
It would be interesting to see if anyone else has this problem.

OR... your supplier/distro has bought in some lesser-quality Ritek media, or even fake Ritek which is confirmed to be out there.

You are probably not buying grade A Ritek. In the UK http://www.dvd-and-media.com sell Grade Ritek for 99p each. Ritek are not getting worse, but those who supply Grade B material are causing these sort of problems. Ritek is still the best disc available today that wont break the bank

Thanks for the link Chris they are 25p cheaper than the "grade A" I have recently purchased. I will try these and hopefully will get better results.

Its a sad day... I finally find the perfect DVD Media, and then it goes bad on me... I been using Ritek G04 from MERITLINE.COM. I have had no probs with them. I have used about 600 with no probs, except of my own doing. I get a 200 batch in a week ago, and after the first 50 with success, I had a 80% failure rate. Which is now about 90%. I use DVD Decryptor and RecordNow Max. The problem is that the software successfully burns, but when I put it into a DVD player or back in my computer, it is not recognized. Its been one coaster after another. This is happening on two separate computers (so its not the computer), and I wiped the HDD and reinstalled everything. It suxs that the software states burned successfully, and its nothing more than a coaster. I ran and purchased another media (TDK), and it burned those successfully and can be seen on the DVD Player. I narrowed the problem down to the Media. DVD Decryptor sees the manufacturer as Ritek G04, so its legit. Only Only difference I noticed is in the center ring, these have the Ridata eblem in the plastic. This Suxs... any advice???

It certainly does suck, and i feel for you man. However, meritline may be able to compensate you if you can give them the ones not used back so they can do their own test. Then show them the coasters you have made.
Also, i try to buy media by clone disc or ones that have INJ in the centre circle. Had only ever one problem with these types.

It sounds like the same problem I have had... I also burned hundreds of Riteks with 100% success rate and suddenly one bad batch and then changed supplier and get another bad batch... I know that they were sold as grade A riteks and I also have checked them with DVD Decryptor and got the same info Ritek GO4 so I'm not happy with people telling me that they must be grade B. they were sold as grade A and have been giving that info on the disc at the Ritek factory when made so I can only believe they were inferior batches that got through to the supplier.
It wont stop me from buying Ritek because I still believe they are the best around but I just hope this is a temporary hitch and get no more bad batches.
I have found that by burning at a reduced speed I have a much better success rate. I will use up the rest of these discs and then buy from yet another supplier.

I am willing to give Ritek G04 another try. Thats how good they were, but I want to know if anyone knows of a reliable supplier in the states. I have used Meritline.com, but I rather try someone else.

Try reducing the burn speed boriqua
and see if they are better. it worked for me and at least I'm hardly getting any coasters now so I can finish off the batch.

No, dont try burning at a lower speed. You shouldnt have to. Its the media at fault if you do.
