I just read in the November issue of Game Informer on page 52 that Microsoft is admitting that it's 2005 batch of 360's were defective and that they will pay for repairs for systems manufactured before Jan 1 2006 and will refund those who already paid for repairs for 2005 units.

As a person who had a defective 2005 Xbox 360 and paid for the $130 repair costs, I'm really glad that Microsoft has finally stepped up and taken responsibility for their mistakes.

I just called 1-800-4MY-XBOX and I was able to get a $130 refund (in the form of a check) and hopefully the check makes it to me in the 4-5 days that the Microsoft rep. told me.

How many Xbox 360 have already died since Nov 22?

This news was actually posted in here awhile back. But it's sweet that you've posted not only with the news but that you're getting a refund. I don't recall anyone else posting results. Hopefully others will read this and be able to get what they're owed.

Anyone know if this is true info? I hope so, cause now my 360 has crapped out and im pissed. I paid 570 bucks (in ontario canada) for the f'in thing november 22nd last year and have barely used it etc. NOw all i get when trying to power it on is the three red flashing lights with the upper right quadrant off. I suppose this is a fairly common problm. Anyways, I really dont want to pay another 130 bucks for something that should work. I mean fuk man, i still have the clear plastic film on the frnt of the unit and controller etc. and the stupid thing wont work at all now.

Anyways if someone else can confirm that MS will pay for the fix that would be great. Thanks everyone

Well i just called them and gave them my serial number etc. I hung up on the first chick cause she was a tard...here's an example:

MS - ok sir can i have your serial #
me - blah blah blah
MS - ok sir i will repeat it back to you
me - ok yep you got it right.
MS - your not in the system, can i have your serial number?
me - ummm ok i just gave it to you, but here it is again...
MS - ok sir i will repeat it back to you..
me - (sigh) yes you got it correct again.
MS - ok i'm just going to confirm it once more, it is 2...0...9
me - jesus, then click, me hanging up...

Anyways, i just called right back and got a normal person thank god. SO they said that i do fall under the extended warrantee and gave me an adress to ship it to. I live in Ontario Canada and they are having me ship it to a place 10 min away from my work (lucky me). So i'm going to drop it off myself tomorrow and according to them they will just give me a refurbished system etc. I then proceeded to ask about a warrantee for the new system and they said its 30 days.

I think that is a bunch of crap. Only 30 days, by the time you factor in shipping etc, your screwed. My only way around that is to purchase an extended warrantee from them to my ass is covered. Which i will do for sure...hopefully it doesnt cost to much.

On that note i will see what happens from there. Here are my learnings, i was always a nintendo/playstation guy, then when the 360 came out i decided to make the jump over. I really wish i didnt do this and just waited for the PS3 or something else. I just find it really painful to throw out almost 600 bucks for something that wont last for a year. then you have to give them more money for a warrantee etc. ITs total BS. I mean its funny that a NES from 1986 still works perfectly and has been left on for countless hours over 20 years. And a 600 $ system wont even last a year. I wouldnt be so bothered if it was just a one off occassion cause nothings perfect, but when you read a million posts about xbox360 problems, you have to wonder.....

ok gotta run, i'll keep you all posted.

Well, just got back from the shipping place. I brought in my crappy xbox, and they gave me a refurb unit right there. Well i guess we shall see how it works tonight. I'm still going to call MS and see what the deal is with the warrantee on the console. I did notice that the manufactured date on this one is 12-18-05. So i wonder if it is past the 30 day warrantee, they will still take it back considering this one has the date before Jan 01/06.
