Hi - Can any please give me some advise.

I have been backing up all my PS2 orignals and playing the backups using
swap magic method with flip lid. All has been fine, then this mornin I went to use it again booted with swap magic fine swapped my disc......
Then PS2 started makin a sound ai never heard before as it tried to read the disc. Done this a few time then I got message "invalid PS2 Disc".
I then put the original game in the drive and that loaded fine!

I am puzzled as I was using this fine yesterday with no problems.
I use 8 speed TuffDics burnt at 2 speed never had a problem reading before with swapmagic.
Can anyone help me? Do you think my PS2 laser is giving up?

Any replies would be much appreciated!
Thanks
Bocaspur

Ps. Big PS2 with flip lid & Ethernet adapter, 40 gig HDD installed. Using swapmagic 3.6.

Thanks

Your laser has likely gotten to the stage where it won't read those crappy TuffDisc media any more, and it's not surprising, since TuffDisc are actually other companies cast offs, recoated with TuffDisc branding.
I had some of their CD-Rs one time, and never again. The top surface peeled away to reveal they were in fact HP 80 min CD-R, and the silver coating was very thin underneath - probably the reason HP rejected them.

First thing to do would be to clean the laser, then adjust the drive tray height (white cog at rear of laser bay) or laser height (small screw beside lens) if cleaning alone doesn't work.
Then - ditch those TuffDiscs, otherwise your laser will be put to the point of strain where it loads nothing.

Personally I would recommend any 8x DVD-R that uses RITEK G05 dye & burn at 4x. Over 2000 PS2 games backed up to RITEK media & not a single bad burn!
